Should I stop utrogestan

I have been taking utrogestan for the first 14 days of each month. Last week I developed bad reflux accompanied by difficulty swallowing any pills and I neglected to take it one night. I took it the following morning but my period started early that day. I then took my evening dose as usual. The following day (day 9) my period stopped after just a day.

I am wondering if I should carry on taking it until day 14 this month or stop it now and allow my period to start properly.

If it makes any difference I haven't been feeling great, reflux, dizziness and anxiety and wondering if this is linked to the hrt (I have been using it for around a year)

I think you should check with your GP if you've not been feeling OK and have reflux etc.

Thanks for your reply. I will do but the GP is closed until tomorrow and the waiting time for appointments is long and I need to decide whether or not to take it this evening.

How long have you been on HRT?

After a while, Utrogestan should set a cycle with a predictable bleed.

If your bleed starts early, you are supposed to carry on to the 14 days so it eventually overrides your own cycle. You can, by the way, take 12 days.
14 days is actually an option for women who need more. 12 days (as per the patient leaflet) is adequate.

Your reflux sounds like that needs investigating anyway but you could try some over the counter meds first- Gaviscon, Rennies etc for a while- avoid trigger foods etc.

Thanks jingling, I have been on hrt for just under a year. My period has been regular on it until this month and no bad symptoms until this month.

I think it is only irregular at the moment becuase I forgot a pill but would like to know if I am better now taking the next 3 to take me to day 13 or stop given that I have already had a period lasting 1 day.

As above ^^ :)

Great, thanks for clarifying.

Do you know if reflux is linked to hrt medicine? I am wondering if I am better off trying the viginal form.

I have been getting horrible reflux too and my period came 1 week early. I take the pills for 13 days from day 15 of each cycle so I just counted the 15 days from the day the bleed started. It wasn't a proper period at all though. It reminded me of when I was pregnant and had no idea for the first 3 months!

My GP advised me to take my 200mg of utrogestan vaginally on days 15-26. I’ve just finished but no bleed yet. Good news is no headaches during the progesterone phase, which was a massive issue for me on my previous prescription, Femoston 2/10mg. I’ve been inserting it at night after doing various research and I’ve been sleeping pretty well. Good luck!

If you only get reflux on the days when you take Utrogestan then yes, it may be.

But you will have 2 weeks without it , so do you get reflux then?

Might be good to describe what you feel- reflux is usually belching, burping, acidic feeling after eating.

And if this is new and you've not had it before, how does that fit with using Utrogestan?

Reflux can be caused by anxiety , certain foods, eating too late before bed and other things as well.
