Hi , I’m on HRT & have always gone for my mammograms every 3 years the last one was Jan 2021 . However I received an appointment for May , would this be correct ? Is it because I’m on HRT so mammograms are more frequent
Any advice please ?

Was your last one late? They are supposed to start at 50 but some women don't get called till they are almost 52-53.

I don't even know if the national screening programme knows about women's use of HRT. I doubt they link it as HRT doesn't mean more mammos unless you opt for that and have them privately, more often, which some women do.

It’s a strange one , the nurse asked if I was on HRT at my last mammogram which wasn’t late
It could be an error I’ll phone my Dr on Tuesday

I had this and it was to do with the timing for eligible patients at my GP's being called for mammogram. I was told that if I wanted to wait it would likely be over 3 years before I was called again.
They do ask if you are taking HRT so presumably do collate this data.

JinglingSpringbells · 09/04/2023 19:53

@misspigg87 @vjg13 They only ask if you are using HRT because it can make breasts denser and harder to get a clear image sometimes. It's not for any other reason AFAIK

They don't hold onto data like that.

The national screening program for smears and mammos is completely separate from your GP.

I have had private smears for years and even though the results were sent to my GP, I kept getting recalls from the national screening program and had to phone them to opt out on the basis that my smears had been done (more often the on the NHS for women my age.)

@vjg13 That's not what I meant.
Yes, the GP provides a list to start the screening but if you have screening outside the NHS, the results don't get sent to the screening centre via your GP.

I kept getting very 'strong' letters about the benefits of cervical screening (as if I'd missed mine) when in fact I'd had far more than the NHS offered. This was because even though my results were sent to the GP by my gynae (private) they were not linked from there to the screening programs.

The only way I could stop getting the NHS letters was by calling their number to opt out.

This means I will be shown on some national system as having opted out of screening, when in fact I was doing it more often than every 5 years (which is what women my age get on the NHS.)

it hasn’t been two years since my last mammogram I’m just wondering if it’s an error
Ill phone my Dr on Tuesday
