Help me tackle horrible monthly chin spots( on hrt)

I use acnecide with some success, but think I need a better regime. I get horrible spots on my jaw line/ chin and sometimes cheek round about the time I take the utrogestan and for a while after I have stopped . It takes them ages to clear up and my skin is just about clear by the time the whole cycle starts again. I have perma hyper pigmentation from them.
Can anyone recommend products? I am 55 and have others quite dry skin.
Thanks

Have you heard of Dr Mindy Pelz? Hormone based fasting and diet. It's been a revelation

BigButtons · 09/04/2023 15:45

Thanks- I had a quick look but am really needing to keep my protein levels high and spread out through the day so fasting wouldn’t work for me.
I have bought some clay face wash and am hoping that good skin hygiene will help( as well as not picking🥴)

I used to get terrible hormonal chin spots and was worried utrogestan would trigger them but it hasn’t. I’m also on testosterone and thought that might do it too. I think it’s because my oestrogen levels must be well balanced and I also use prescription skincare including tretinoin (I started off with clindamycin too) from Dermatica. My skin hasn’t been this clear since before puberty hit.

Not convinced about clay, that tends to be v drying.

Two words: azelaic acid. Get it from Boots online doctor or else just via Dermatica (they now sell on Amazon, no need to put up with their hard-sell monthly subscription nonsense). You will need the 20% strength. Apply sparingly morning or evening, and do add some light moisturiser on top or else it will dry your skin too much. It works surprisingly well even under makeup. Start out three times a week and build up from there. Give it six to eight weeks, but it will work (life-long adult acne sufferer here). Pleasant side effect is that it also brightens the skins and gets rid of hyper pigmentation from old acne marks. Good luck x

Are you able to switch HRT? Isn’t there one that doesn’t cause acne? (Excuse my ignorance, this is what puts me off using HRT, not done an awful lot of research yet!)

I love Liz Earle cleanse and polish, then the toner with a few drops of tea tree oil. Non comedogenic moisturisers, don’t use one at night. The only upshot is I don’t have dry skin or lines….

Someone else posted about Dermatica, have never tried it but may be worth a shot.

I've struggled with huge acne problems in peri. Threw everything I could at it - HRT, lymecycline, high strength prescription from Dermatica, differin cream. In around 1 month my face was clear. Don't know what has worked to what extent. But I've dropped the lymecycline and continued everything else for the past 6-8 months and my skin is clearer than it's ever been.
If you want my Dermatica prescription details please DM me.

I count myself lucky to get any HRT atm. The chemists are often out of all of it and it’s a joke trying to speak to a gp in my area.
the HRT works well in all other areas though.
I pick at my spots and make them worse. I wish I could stop.

Wow- thank you I might well try that.
it’s like they pop up from nowhere, big and angry and take ages to go away. Then I pick and make them worse. Then I am left with red marks. Just started another round of utrogestan and my face has just calmed down- left with red marks- so in another week they will come again🙁.
