What's going on with my body & HRT? Have I got anything to worry about?

3 years ago, aged 50, hot flushes etc, was put on Femoston 1/10. Had a horrendous bleed and I queried whether I should have been on Femoston Conti 1/5 as hadn't previously had a period for a year. Was put on Conti, light spotting which still kept going for more than 6 months. Queried this, was told it would settle down. Sometimes I still get a period, about once a year. Told GP during reviews which take place on the phone. I take my own blood pressure for the 3 monthly review.

Symptoms of menopause worsening so have asked about increase and a switch to patches/gel.

Today have been told I should be on sequential HRT not Conti and the patch they will put me on is a sequi one. Also sending me for an ultrasound.

Can someone point me to anything that can tell me what the issue is? I'm worried about having the heavy bleeding start up again - does sequi do that?

Thanks

That is correct.

Until you have had one full year with no natural periods at all, (or are aged over 54) you should use sequi.

@JinglingSpringbells but I'd had a year without a period at age 50?

Is it because I've since had a couple of periods in a 2 year stretch?

Depends. I'm on uterogestan without a break. 43, still have periods. It's because I have endometriosis - to ensure the oestrogen is kept in balance and doesn't trigger my endo. For most people it's as JinglingSprinbells says.

I think you've answered you own question!

It's not an exact science. Most women who go for 12 months with no period are 'done' but like everything, there will be exceptions, especially at 'just' 50. Some women can go for 11 months and 29 days at 50 ,or 51, and have another few.

It's not just about age.

Dr is right to refer you for a scan, just to be sure that what you think are periods really are that, and not something else that needs attention.

Hope it settles down.

Thank you @JinglingSpringbells and @WhatNoPeas

I really thought I was done. I'll have to see how the sequi patches go as really don't want the heavy bleeding I had on the Femoston 1/10 I had before.
