Peri at age 30?

I don't know what's going on. My periods have suddenly become very irregular, only finished two weeks ago and now I've started again yesterday. My anxiety is so through the roof now during that time - it was so bad a couple of months ago I actually ended up having to call the Samaritans, I felt so low. A couple of days after, when the PM's symptoms wear off I feel completely fine again.

My cycles are now a lot shorter and less heavy but come at different intervals every month and the emotional changes are so much worse now. The worst physical symptom is the hot sweats which often happen at night and really fuck up my sleep.

Almost a year ago I had endometriosis removed, and I did expect a while for my periods to settle after that. But it doesn't seem right to me that they are getting more different and challenging now than they did straight after the surgery.

I've seen my GP who advised to track my cycles for the next couple of months which I am doing, they've tested for anemia which I don't have and checked my thyroid medication is at the right levels. They wanted to put me on sertraline but I'm not feeling low and anxious and terrible apart from a few days a month 😞

Any ideas??? I'm really struggling with this.

It isn't completely impossible and it does really sound like my experiences of peri even with relatively regular periods, they would only vary by 1-3 days even when it got to the stage of hot flushes and extreme memory issues. I'm also on thyroxine and that were slightly high actually and I did benefit from dropping slightly from 125/150 alternating days to 125.

my peri symptoms were very similar to thyroid but much more painful - horrific aches and pains, over heating, fluctuating moods. First symptoms were aches and pains and being extremely hot at night, with insomnia. Extreme Pmt for the first time in my life.

I'd double check what your thyroid levels are numbers wise to be sure.

Thanks for your reply :) I didn't really think there would be any connection with my thyroid but I haven't actually seen my levels for about 2 years, I'll request to see those. And yes it's hard because the symptoms are all quite 'vague' and could be explained by so many different things :( I have been going through a period of great stress but this was a lot worse last year and my periods were fine, this definitely seems cycle/hormone related.

It took around 8 years for my endo to be discovered and diagnosed after years of being told it was just normal, so I don't have much faith in badgering doctors about this. Just feel like they've labelled me as depressed and want me to take sertraline and go away 🙄😬.

It's awful isn't it. I've had the same experience since my thyroid clumped at 20. Doled out anti depressants till I started to become skeletal and almost comatosed most days.

Change of Gp found hypothyroidism but then I couldn't get of the ads (Paroxetine) and had an awful time trying to get well again.

The doctor obviously explained that due to my age it was extremely unlikely to be related to the perimenopause but surely it's not unheard of. My thyroid I literally had clumps of hair coming out, flaking skin, nails that broke all the time and was falling asleep in work, that's when they eventually tested me and didn't put it down to stress. I think because I have a history of depression it is the go to for most medical issues I seek help for.
