Hormone levels 24 hour cycle

Does anyone have any useful info/links on how the main three hormones Oestrogen/Progesterone/Testosterone
should naturally peak/dip during a 24 hour period?

eg in a "typical" person, would you expect the Oestrogen to be higher/lower in the morning, or does it increase gradually throughout the day?

I'm just interested to know whether there's a pattern that can loosely apply to all or whether it's an individual thing. If there's a typical pattern then it might help me when trying to figure out my own routine.

I don't think sex hormones work that way, but maybe google can help?
Estrogen and progesterone work on a monthly cycle.

If you are asking because you want to tune it to applying HRT I don't think there is much point. HRT should give a steady state, not fluctuations.

I was thinking about mood, and ability to function daily. I often feel more with it in late morning than first thing, and then less myself towards the end of the day.

I'm taking my HRT as directed but am still finding peaks and dips within any given 24 hours regardless, so was really just trying to think sideways.

It's possibly a lot more complicated than that and connected with your circadian rhythm and not necessarily linked to timing of HRT.

Have you thought about any other factors like diet, alcohol, sleep, exercise patterns?

SurelyNot22 · 07/03/2023 17:52

Yes, I have.

I exercise at regular times, with a well thought out plan. I have a balanced diet, I take the right supplements, I don't drink. I go to bed at the same time etc etc. I've always been pretty good with all of this stuff but since peri I've made a conscious effort to tweak things. I'm as sure as I can be that I'm doing everything I should be. And yet adding the HRT hasn't made a great deal of difference. It's improved things slightly but not really as much as I was hoping for. It's hard not to be despondent about it all when I'm doing exactly what's recommended.
My partner also mentioned circadian rhythm so I'll do some research on that too.

I don’t know but I opened this thread because I find the same. I’m only new to HTR - week 3 oestrogen and week 1 progesterone. My main symptoms are insomnia and fatigue. The insomnia has lifted but I’m still utterly exhausted by the time I finish work for the day.
Maybe life is just tiring. I was hoping for a bit more oomph, to be honest.

I'm 5-6 months in now and the GP has made a couple of tweaks to my HRT but I'm still not feeling great. I've been reading the threads about testosterone and am looking into this too. There has to be something else to add/adjust. I can't believe that this is as good as it gets.

If you don't feel better on HRT, it's worth trying a slight increase in estrogen and seeing if that helps. You said your GP had made tweaks- what were they?

SurelyNot22 · 07/03/2023 19:57

Increasing the oestrogel was one. Another was to change how I take the utrogestan. I'm now taking one capsule per day every day. I'm on the progesterone only contraceptive pill so breakthrough bleeding unlikely.

I think there are lots of hormones that rise and dip; I know thyroxine and tsh does for example but as jingling says the main one is likely to be circadian rhythm.

I'd possibly consider more oestrogen as you're on a lot of progesterone.

I believe testosterone in women can be a little higher in the morning but I'm now on it and not noticing any particular rise or dip after applying. But it's early days and I've just had a string of viruses that I'm still getting over .

I do notice with new oestrogen patches (or if I forget to take the other one off! Not advised!) Oestrogen does really help sleep so could be helpful. I also think I felt more awake first thing when oestrogen was the right dose for me.

Getting outside for a walk first thing, as early as possible, is really supposed to help reset circadian rhythms (take one thing, Michael Mosley, radio 4). As is several days of camping.
