Utrogestan

I've been using Estradot 50mg and 200mg utrogestan vaginally for 14 days.
During the utrogestan part of my cycle i have mood swings and night sweats. I saw a gynae privately to see how I could alleviate this and she suggested 100mg of utrogestan daily for 25 days. She said my pms type symptoms will be related to the spike of progesterone on day 14 and to have it throughout the month may be beneficial.
Can I ask if anyone has experience of this, I'd appreciate your opinions. Many thanks

Hi,
I’ve been taking 1 x Utrogestan on days 1-25 for about 8 months now, combined with 3 pumps of Oestrogel and have got on really well with it. I never had ‘physical’ symptoms such as night sweats but suffered badly with PMS (for the first time in my life) and crippling anxiety. Very pleased that I now feel like me again. BUT, yesterday, I got a text message from my GP telling me to change my dose to x2 for 2 weeks and 2 weeks off. I am not keen at all and don’t understand the logic. Waiting for a callback tomorrow to discuss it. If I’m not convinced, I’ll keep going as I am.
I feel that taking it on days 1-25 keeps me on even keel. In your position, I’d definitely give it a try.

It's fine to do that regime @KellyMarieTunstall2 if you are late peri or post menopausal.

If you aren't, you may find you get some spotting as the smaller dose of Utrogestan may not be enough to control the estrogen (your own, plus the hrt.)

It's trial and error. I tried the 25 days and just felt worse, the same as using it on a cycle.

Another point is that the actual dose is 12 days x 200mgs. I don't know why so many drs now are advocating 14. The 14 is there as an option if women need more to control heavy bleeds. The patient leaflet does say 'use 12 or 14 ' days.

12 days is enough and is often more tolerable than 14.

Also, 12 days per month often means 12 days in 30+ days, not 28, which makes it more tolerable for some women.

The other option is longer cycles- 14 days every 3rd month.
