Major surgery triggered menopause?

This is probably really stupid, but I'm genuinely interested, as it was a huge coincidence.

I had major surgery in the middle of November (ankle fusion, not abdominal).

I had my period just before and stopped bleeding the day before surgery.

I had an ultrasound scan in September, due to heavy periods, this showed a bulky uterus, but my ovaries were 'normal in size and appearance'. My periods were regular and I'd never missed one.

After the surgery I was quite ill. My blood pressure fell dramatically and I was nearly placed in ICU and my blood samples showed a plummet in lymphocytes and eosinophils and a rise in neutrophils.

I lost 3.5 litres of blood with my last caesarean and I wonder if my body reacts strongly to surgery trauma?

That was my last period. I keep feeling premenstrual; sore boobs, cervical mucus, migraines, etc, but no bleeding at all.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but could there be any correlation? It just seems weird to have have been regular, then stop abruptly after surgery.

I would be interested to find this out too.

I was seriously ill after childbirth with a raging infection. My trauma wasn't surgery but it was certainly very traumatic. They never found the source of my infection and my periods never came back. Blood tests a few months later confirmed menopause. I was only 37.

One GP I discussed this was of the opinion that it was the shock I didn't give this much thought but maybe it is a thing after all ..

One of my colleagues went into menopause when her son sadly died suddenly, she was 40 and never had another period and was in her seventies when I knew her.
I often found that illness affected periods, so I think that there could well be a correllation.

Hypopituitarism? May be caused by blood loss.
