This thread has some helpful tips. Someone suggested magnesium for sleep and mood, which I started taking around 2 weeks ago and the change in both my mood and sleep patterns has been immense!

How old are you, are you peri or post meno and what tablets do you have?

I would suggest you go back and tell your gp that oral tablets are very outdated and they should be prescribing the safest form which is body identical hrt such as oestrogel and utrogestan.

discobrain · 25/02/2023 19:06

I'm on evorel sequi patches. Been brilliant for me in all honesty. What have you been prescribed?

R18 · 25/02/2023 19:11

I am nearly 47, this is my 3rd year into and I have tried with my gp lots of times which is why I am here.
I am the only woman so far in my family for 4 generations to go through it they all had to have operations but little old me who is Peri is not coping.

what is it that you are not coping with?
a bit more detail might help as everyone experiences menopause differently.
have your periods stopped?

Yes but what have you been prescribed? We can't properly offer supporting advice unless we know what you're taking.

Newgirls · 25/02/2023 19:19

Op every woman on the planet goes through it - the women before you just didn’t talk about it.

so much good information out there now - Louise Newsons website is a good place to start

'Operations' doesn't mean women don't go through the menopause, if you mean they had hysterectomies. Sometimes the symptoms are worse after surgery.

What HRT are you on?

If your GP won't consider swapping you to something else- maybe a higher dose- then can you see someone else?

What happens when you talk to your GP? Are you asking about trying different types of HRT and maybe a different dose?

R18 · 25/02/2023 19:37

The women in my family just don't talk about it and crossly say we had an operation, so I have long sentence given up asking them. My periods stopped years and years ago. I have just made a gp appointment online with a woman doctor who I hope is my helpful than my own gp.

Good for you OP

menopausing by Davina McCall is a good book. Buy on Amazon etc and go to that GP appt fully informed 👍

greenspaces4peace · 25/02/2023 19:56

okay so you are post menopausal @R18
is the poor sleep the worse bit? anything else?
what tablets are you on?
at 47 are you still working full time/family/ in a relationship?

if it's only poor sleep (along with a change of tablets) magnesium helps (i'm aiming for 450mg a day with food and supplements, so i keep track on an app).
melatonin and ashwandgara can help. exercise and healthy eating.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 25/02/2023 20:12

Sorry to hear that you're struggling. I'm sure speaking to a female menopause specialist will be a massive help. It sounds like HRT would really help you.

It's a shame your family members won't share any of their experiences with you. There is no operation to 'cure' menopause symptoms so I've no idea what they're referring to. It must be very frustrating for you to be fobbed off by the very people who should be supporting you.

You can help yourself by understanding more about menopause. Louise Newson is a well respected menopause specialist. She has a great website and has written books which provide plenty of information.

Mojoyoyo · 25/02/2023 20:17

Your GP doesn’t sound helpful
Perhaps you should ask to see a female GP who is more in touch with and understanding
of female hormones and the menopause/ peri in general.
It not a case of “ one size fits all”

LucieField · 06/03/2023 14:14

Yes, there are a huge amount of things you can do that work. I had terrible sleep last year but now sleep all night again - it's worth working out what is causing the hormone imbalances then you know where to start working so you can turn your sleep around. Lack of sleep and stress are tightly linked. Is there anything specific that's waking you up? eg. hot flashes.

Hi, first time poster and hoping someone can help please. I am 51 years old and perimenopausal, I had everything from night sweats, brain fog, mood swings, anxiety, anger, hair loss, not sleeping. Had phone consultation with dr and she put me on femseven 50, after around 5 weeks she phoned me in a panic as she had put me on the wrong ones as these were for women who didn’t have a womb anymore, so she then put me on Ellest duet conti. I started those on the 17th of January, all was ok ish but I felt they weren’t really working for me, then of February 14 I started spotting it then developed into a period with days of flooding then days of heavy spotting and back to days of heavy bleeding. So March 2nd I had another dr appointment for her to take swabs and when I got there I was told I was on the wrong hrt yet again! This should be given to someone who hasn’t had a period for over 12 months! I was 3 months with no period, she thought this was why I was bleeding, so I am now on yet another hrt Evorel sequi, I started that on Friday 3rd, the thing is I’m still bleeding and don’t know what to do! Has anyone been through something similar? Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you for reading this far!! X

Newgirls · 07/03/2023 19:57

Wow what bad advice you got!

everol sequi patches are prescribed for peri (when you still have periods) so this sounds right for you

Want2beme · 08/03/2023 10:57

I'm 56 & haven't had a period since July 2022. I've got brain fog. Fortunately, I'm not suffering too badly with hot flushes. I get them for a few weeks or so, then they disappear for a while. I experienced some a little while ago and popped into my local health store to see what I could find. They recommended sage drops. I've been taking them for 3 weeks now, and haven't had any hot flushes.

I'm hoping this is a solution and not just a coincidence. If anyone's interested, this is what I'm taking. I only take it once a day, not 3 times a day, as recommended. 15 drops in a tiny amount of water, in the morning.

Very interested to know if anyone else has noticed hair loss after starting on HRT (specifically gel and progesterone). Didn’t have this problem on Femoston and took that for 12 years!
its terrible to see hair falling out and depressing! Any info greatly appreciated. I’m taking biotin etc.

Blueink · 14/06/2023 06:45

How are u getting on OP? Hope the other Dr was more helpful.

What are u taking?

Suggest it may be helpful to try adding Testosterone gel, especially as u went thro menop. young
