Can I take the utrogestan now or must I wait?

I started oestrogel last week and planned to start my 12 days of utrogestan on 1st March so I know where I am with taking it

I'm not able to base any of this on my cycle right now as my periods have suddenly gone haywire and I haven't a clue where I am in my cycle. I do still have periods though

The thing is, I'm desperate to sleep properly - this is my main perimenopause issue - and I must be perimenopausal as periods all over the place and I'm 51!

Can I just start the progesterone tonight for a fortnight? Or do I have to wait?

Thanks in advance

Been on this regime for a couple of years. Initially the oestrogel or just Sod's Law meant my period went haywire anyway so I just started the utrogestan in the end and it settled down over a few months. Slept like a baby on utrogestan! Took it at night.

@spartanrunnergirl yeah this is where I'm at really. Id really like to help my sleep and I suddenly wondered why I was waiting for an arbitrary date.. just wondered if ok to just bloody start the utrogestan now to try and help myself

So I definitely won't mess anything up by starting the progesterone now?

@PickledOwl I'm not a medic so can only relay what I did. The idea of the progesterone is to elevate that hormone and when you stop after day 12 the level drops and this is what triggers the period starting.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 19/02/2023 20:17

spartanrunnergirl I never thought to take it at night - I really struggle sometimes to get a full night’s sleep so will try that. It’s awkward in the mornings as you have to eat an hour afterwards.

I was told to take it at any point in my cycle. I finished two weeks today and period is due 25th. No tablets for two weeks then back on

Thanks all

Are you taking 200 mg of progesterone as a dose? My dr messed up and prescribed 100 mg as a dosage but my understanding is this should be double that

I take 200mg. Cycle all over the place as well so was told just to start asap.

IsThisNameTaken · 19/02/2023 20:56

@SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows I was specifically told to take it at night, at least an hour after eating and not to eat after taking it. So very different advice!

PickledOwl · 19/02/2023 21:00

I wish the advice was more standard.

Ok I think I'll start tonight in about an hour as I'm currently just polishing off a French fancy!

Does it matter if you don’t take the Oestrogel & Utrogestan together? At the mo I put the gel on & take the tablet in the morning but as posted earlier, it seems a better idea to take the progesterone at night.

PickledOwl · 19/02/2023 21:59

@SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows well I can answer that one! Doesn't matter at all. You can rub your gel on in the morning and take the utrogestan before bed. Doing it this way can also help to negate any potential progesterone side effects
