Peri and HRT advice

Hello ladies. I need a bit of advice.
I am 48, still with regular periods and ovulation. I have had some very mild peri symptoms for a while but nothing to bother me much. But 3-4 month ago it got really bad – mainly anxiety.
I started Lenzetto spray – for the first 5 weeks all was going ok – symptoms were slowly easing. But after 5 weeks I started to feel really nauseated, my boobs started to hurt.
The nausea was getting worse so I came to conclusion one spray is too much for me. So about 8 days ago I started on a lower dose

  • about a quarter. The problem is – my boobs are still hurting, my nausea is not gone but my anxiety is getting pretty bad again. I am guessing, I simply unbalanced my system by lowering the dose – any advice how long I should wait it out before I start fiddling with the dose again? My second question – would you say my assessment of the one spray being too much is correct or is that possible that the Lenzetto itself is the problem? My head is spinning with all the different ‘what-if’ scenarios so I would be very grateful some balanced opinion.

Just to add, for the moment I am not taking any progesterone. As I am still ovulating and my body is producing its own, I decided to fix the estrogen part first.

I did not explain that in 'right order' because progesterone wasn't part of my question at all. In fact I wish I have not mentioned it all because it meant I haven't really got any answers to my questions.

'it meant I haven't really got any answers to my questions.'

The answer to your question is many women feel nauseous on oestrogen even after a promising first few weeks. It usually settles down. So carry on with a low dose and build up to a full spray or 2. I realise it's been 3 months in which case you may want to ask for patches or discontinue of it is unbearable.

Do you you eat well, have a healthy bmi etc?

Kat2106 · 13/02/2023 20:34

@Janiie Thank you.
I eat healthy but for the last month it has been a struggle because of the nausea.
My BMI could be lower but as CFS sufferer, extra movement usually carries consequences for me. That's also the reason of my super sensitivity to, well, everything.
I'm going to stick iwth half a spray for now. Hopefully, the current worsening of anxiety is just the temporary result of lowering the dose.
If it does not work out, I will need to change a formulation.
Thank you again

When I first used estrogen, whilst having regular periods, my consultant advised using it for the 2 weeks post ovulation only, with no progesterone required. If you are still having regular periods perhaps you could try using it like this to boost your estrogen levels in the luteal phase only - perhaps your estrogen levels are fine in the first 14 days leading up to ovulation so you don't need to top them up? PMT can worsen in peri and estrogen works well for this, although it will need adjusting as you get older and closer to menopause.

@Rina66 thank you very much. My worst days are actually at the start of the cycle and post ovulation - kind of makes sense as those are the times when estrogens are naturally at their lowest level.
I guess it will take a while to find the sweet spot. I just wish I wasn't such a wrack right now

Sounds very tough, I hope you get some improvement soon. As I said maybe patches may suit you better, they are changed every few days so the slow drip drip may suit you better than a once a day spray if you are super sensitive. Best of luck.
