Blood pressure & menopause & problems with medication

I had a thread in health recently but would be interested in experiences here.
I always had low BP until I hit peri and ended up on 2.5 mg ramipril 5/6 years ago. All fine. 3 weeks ago increased to 5mg and really struggling with side effects.
Very dizzy like sea sickness at first. Things got better for a couple of days but since then light headed / headaches / need to be careful turning head / vision feels odd if scroll through pics / videos on phone (like trying to read in car.)
I'm 2 years into full menopause now and wondered if that's why I have been affected by medication (Dr hadn't expected me to get any side effects as had been on the lower so long.)
I'm going to give it another few days as I feel I've 'invested' 3 weeks in this dose and I know all of them have potential for side effects.

Hi, I’m on low dose Indapamide, I was first put on low dose ramipril but like you I felt like I was on a ship! Was awful med for me, made everything spin, couldn’t even walk straight.
Not really any help to you with advice but just to say I have experienced this and I would contact your Gp to change meds.

I had a terrible time with BP tablets for two years. (Ramipril&lisinopril (sp?)
I changed GP for a second opinion. (The one I had was terrible) within a week she'd changed me to Amlodipine and everything has been great since.

Thank you both
@DobbleDobble how long did you give it before stopping the ramipril ?

@LadyLaLaa two years! Confused Must have been horrible. I don't want to give up too quickly but that sounds awful. What type of symptoms were you getting.

Obviously I want to control the blood pressure but it's so tempting to go back to the 2.5mg

@historicalnews Within 5 days as I couldn’t work ?!

Honestly it was awful. I had various issues including nausea, headaches, and vomiting. The original gp insisted it was nothing to do with the tablets, even though I had NONE OF THESE SYMPTOMS, before these meds.
I was back and forth to gp's and I had several visits to a&e from passing out. Again the gp insisted it must have been anything other than the meds. Altered my diet and everything. After this I insisted on seeing another gp.! And have been fine on the new meds. Thank goodness.

Interesting to see how significant the side effects can be. It's made me feel better knowing I'm not the only one and that I'm not overreacting. Glad you got sorted.

I had extremely high blood pressure several years ago and had to take 10mg of ramipril and had to take a water tablet I also felt dizzy and vertigo feelings my GP suggested taking it late evening or before bed and I felt a lot better I've improved blood pressure wise and only take 5mg now would changing the time you take your meds help you

historicalnews · 16/02/2023 21:36

@Joanne73460 I'm just about to take in the evening so I'm hoping it's going to help. Glad it worked for you
