Magnesium- can I just buy it from Boots?

I see lots of praise for magnesium on here. Boots sell 375mg tablets, £10 for 3mths..Will that do it?!

Oh goodness thank you all so much (although I do feel hugely confused now!)
I can sleep for hours on end and never feel refreshed, wake up exhausted, so I do wonder about the quality of sleep.
Also very anxious, which HRT has only partially helped with.

@Armadunno thank you, I had no idea magnesium came in so many forms!

I found this product on Amazon. Any thoughts on if this looks like a good all-round supplement?

In the laura Briden books she advocates taurine and magnesium glycinate for sleep. I thought there was a blog post but I can't find it now

WarriorN · 11/02/2023 10:15

Magnesium taurate is taurine and mag combined

WarriorN · 11/02/2023 10:16

Seems to be good for blood pressure apparently www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6435948/

Oh yes here:

How to supplement with taurine
The therapeutic dose of taurine is 500 to 3000 mg and works best when taken with magnesium, another important nutrient for mood, mitochondria, and insulin sensitivity. I usually prescribe a magnesium glycinate powder with 3000 mg of taurine. Magnesium taurate (a magnesium salt of taurine) is another option.

Make sure you buy a decent brand, some high st shops are a waste of money

I know moneys tight nowadays
but buy the best you can afford

30 x Valupak for £1.09 from local variety store.
I now read Mg can have laxative effects, wtaf, not something I need.
DS has warned me to keep to regular dose, no extra

Which magnesium is it ?

lljkk · 11/02/2023 21:50

Mg oxide... DS went on about it not being so bio-available, too. Jolly good thing with laxative effect to worry about.

liveforsummer · 11/02/2023 21:51

You'll usually find it cheaper/in larger numbers online

lljkk · 11/02/2023 21:52

FFS, here goes on the laxative effect ... health.clevelandclinic.org/does-magnesium-help-you-sleep/ Doubt citrate or glycinate are anywhere available locally.

lljkk · 11/02/2023 21:57

Oh well, at least it was only £1.09 wasted.
I wish sleep + Mg programmes didn't mention anxiety.
I don't have anxiety.
I just don't sleep.
