Supplements and vitamins to help me along

I am 53. About 4 years ago I had terrible perimenopausal symptoms including PMS for most of the month, flooding and anxiety. I ended up dropping loads of money on a private GP who put me on estrogen gel and progesterone tablets. These made me feel worse, especially the progesterone which made me so down. It was awful. I swapped the prog for a Mirena coil, and at the same time lapsed on the gel, and ended up feeling fantastic, so I ditched the gel.

So, I have had a Mirena coil for 3.5 years and after a short while my cycle stopped and I have felt amazing. Loads of energy and just felt fabulous.

Now, over the past month, I have felt tired and the anxiety is creeping in. I am overwhelmed with the things I have to do and feel tired. I don't take any vitamins, or supplements as I have a good diet filled with healthy stuff.

Maybe this is not enough. Maybe at 53, I need to add in extra vitamins and supplements but I don't know what. For my own reasons, I don't want to take HRT. I did see a naturopath a while ago but their recommendations were too extreme and unmanageable.

Magnesium. This dr who specialises in menopause has loads of info vids on TT but here’s a very tiny YouTube one. Thanks to her I’m getting the best sleep in years and my anxiety has reduced.

I take these. A bit pricey but other brands or types of magnesium don’t give me the same sleep.

Vitamins and supplements don't usually work for menopause. Why are you discounting using the gel again? Your estrogen levels will have fallen a lot since you tried before.

I'm in my early 40s and think there's a few peri menopause signs starting to appear. Interrupted sleep, tiredness, anxiety, achey muscles and joints.

I started taking magnesium a few months ago and have definitely seen an improvement in my sleep, energy and muscles/joints.

Another advocate for magnesium - I’m definitely sleeping better.

Do you need to take the magnesium at bedtime to get the best effect?

I am the other way. The older I got the more I didn’t sleep. I have been taken cherry supplements and am having to take the dose down as they were making me too sleep. Wish I had heard about these before. Now if only I could sort out the aching limbs I would feel much better

My aching joints have gone since going on a good quality omega 3. They were better on cod liver oil, but changing to omega 3 has taken it away.

I have Epsom salt baths and the L-Threonate posted above for sleep, definitely makes a difference.
‘And I’ve noticed I’m not tired since swapping vitamin D for D3 and K2.

I take it an hour before bed.
