How do you remind yourself to take Utrogestan for 14 days each month?

Maybe a daft question. And I know I’m having a tech blind spot here, but how do you remind yourselves to take the progesterone pill for 14 days each month?

I tried setting a reminder in my calendar, but it’s such a faff to get the days to set it right (Ie: I can set it every single day, rather than for 14 on and 14 off).

Is there an app you use?

Just a bit worried about missing a pill! And since it’s not every single day, a daily reminder won’t work!

I am about to start taking them today! Started the oestrogel 15 days ago.

I’ll be honest. I’m not great at remembering, so I’m head to see if anyone else does anything inventive.

Take a vitamin supplement the other days?

ChristmasJumpers · 02/02/2023 09:42

Would a pill caddy help? Maybe two so you can fill them up with two full weeks of progesterone, then 2 weeks of a vitamin pill, then repeat?

sanityisamyth · 02/02/2023 09:43

Alexa? She's brilliant at telling me which clubs DS has and what kit to pack each day!

GCWorkNightmare · 02/02/2023 09:44

I’m on the mini-pill and don’t have periods so GP advised I take them from the 1st to 14th of every calendar month. Started yesterday. Should be easy to remember.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 02/02/2023 09:45

Shame they don't do them in packs with the days on and a dummy pill for the off days like they used to with certain brands of the combined pill at one time.

NameChangePoP · 02/02/2023 09:45

I do it slightly differently. I take it on the 1st-14th of every month. So technically it's a couple of days late every so often, but at least I remember it!
I stick a reminder in the iphone to repeat on these days as well.

JinglingSpringbells · 02/02/2023 09:59

You use the same day every month. So your next lot will be from 2 March.

The dose is 12 days as on the leaflet (it can be 14, but the 14 day thing was pushed onto GPs prescribing it, purely to help women remember a regime of 2 weeks on it, 2 weeks off.) The 14 days is for women on higher doses of estrogen or who bleed a lot.

Although the packet says 12 days out of 28, most drs will tell you it's fine to do it per calendar month.

Dogsgottabone · 02/02/2023 12:57

I have just done my first cycle of utrogestan. I leave it on my pillow so I take it as soon as I get into bed.

On another note I would appreciate a different shape as they roll off my hands most days!

I started on the 21st so I'll start that day every month.

flyingant · 02/02/2023 13:08

I take it from the 1st of every month. I set a reminder on my phone calendar for the 1st and then have the tablets by my bed with a bottle of water so I see it to remember to take it each night.

EarringsandLipstick · 02/02/2023 14:15

I have a repeating reminder in my phone - you can custom set up these so it's easy to do (eg for 12 day regimen. Though I do 14 days)

Equally, it's always the same day to start / stop - so if I didn't start this week, I must start next week - and the same with stopping - so it's easy enough to remember that way too.

Cranky2 · 02/02/2023 14:20

Like PPs, I take it from the 1st to the 12th of the month. I wouldn't remember otherwise.

HundredMilesAnHour · 02/02/2023 14:22

I take it for 12 days from the 10th each month. I have a calendar entry (with reminder) in my phone calendar on the 10th to start every month and a calendar entry (with reminder) for the the last day (so the 21st) every month.

In addition to this, I use the Apple Health app for my Medications. It reminds me every night to take my Utrogestan and to apply my Oestrogel. When it's a non-Utrogestan day, I still get a nightly reminder (which makes me think "is it the 10th-21st of the month?") and I select skip it.

Seems to work for me. I haven't missed a dose but I have had a few 'damn, nearly forgot!' moments when I got the reminders.

VickerishAllsort · 02/02/2023 20:56

I start mine every alternate Monday and take fr 12 days, and so far haven't forgotten.
But at the start I kept a label on my gel bottle and ticked off every day for two weeks, then started the pills, until I got used to the routine.

milkyaqua · 02/02/2023 20:58

Paper calendar hung on wall and marked up accordingly. Tick it off.

BigotSpigot · 02/02/2023 21:00

Take it from the 1st to 14th - never have to think about it.

Natureyhello · 02/02/2023 21:00

These are such useful tips and things I didn’t think of! Thank you!

I wanted to ask on 12 vs 14 days… I was told 14 - but were those who take it for 12 also told 14? I can just as easily do 12 as I can 14. Not sure which to pick!

12 or 14 is fine.

As a PP said, GPs often recommend 14 for ease of remembering.

Felicity42 · 02/02/2023 21:04

If it's in a foil blister pack, write the day initial on the back of each tablet blister with a Sharpie and leave the pack beside your alarm clock or beside your toothbrush.

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/02/2023 21:11

Put the next block in your calendar, and then put a daily alarm on your phone?

Gardengirl108 · 02/02/2023 21:13

I use the Health app (Apple). I take mine 12 days a month, so take it from 1st -12th. I set up a reminder that goes off everyday (along with the other meds I take) and I take it if the date is between the 1st and 12th. It tracks what I’ve taken and when (including time).

Camdenish · 02/02/2023 21:17

I take mine from the first to the twelfth of the month. My specialist suggested I do this.

HairyKitty · 02/02/2023 21:22

I set a calendar reminder on the first day I need to take them. And I load up a pill caddy with 12 days worth in it that I keep by the bed.

AutumnIsMyFavouriteSeason · 02/02/2023 21:36

I write day1 in my calendar. On that day I keep the pills alongside my estrogen gel which I put at night, take the tablet at the same time. After the month is done I put the pills away until next cycle.
