Thickened Uterus Lining - worried

Namaste6 · 31/01/2023 08:07

Hoping for some reassurance here. Following a very scant spotting episode I had an abdominal and internal scan. Results stated ‘normal overall’ with normal ovaries, normal size and shape of uterus with a smooth lining. All good.

However the lining was ‘slightly more thickened’ than it should be. Because of this and because of the slight / scant bleed I jad a couple of weeks ago, I’m being referred for a biopsy. I'm also presumed post menopausal (54) and on continuous HRT. Doc said not to worry and that it would be silly not to follow up properly. I’m worried sick to be honest. She said that the referral was urgent - but that was on the basis of my age, presuming post menopausal and the lining being thicker than it should be also with the slight bleed (practically nothing - more of a watery tint) She did say that it was positive that I hadn’t bled since and that the bleed wasn't heavy. I’m still worried.

I’ve read online that the ca125 blood test is reliable at diagnosing any nasties in the uterus too (not just an ovarian marker) and mine came back normal. The doctor also said that HRT ‘could’ cause the thickening. Still worried.

Anyone had any experience of this?

Thank you everyone x

I've had this twice. Both times my biopsy came back negative.

It's hard but try not to worry too much, it's very common

Thank you @Girlintheframe this is reassuring. 🙏

Yes, very common. 3 episodes myself, 3 hysteroscopies . Found a cyst, some fibroids and a polyp on different occasions but all unrelated. At 6 month checks each time, the lining was back to normal.

Try not to worry, with everything else looking normal it’s very unlikely to be anything serious.

@MrsSkylerWhite Thank you 🙏

I had a hysteroscopy with D&C in September. I’ve had a follow up ultrasound (internal & external), endometrium is thickening again so going for another one in 3 weeks to see if it’s increasing. My specialist will then review and go from there. She prescribed progesterone for me but I stopped taking it as I didn’t like how it made me feel & it was making me anxious. No further bleeding so far.

I had this last year following regular bleeding. I was referred for a hysteroscopy where they spotted a polyp which was removed there and then. I am on HRT (Oestrogel and Progesterone continuously) and since the procedure have had no further problems. I as offered the Mirena coil but never having had it previously I opted against it.

It's natural to worry, but try not to because these early tests and investigations are the way to go. My thickened uterine lining did turn out to be endometrial cancer, but because it was spotted early it was all dealt with by a hysterectomy. Five years on I've never felt better.

Had this before Xmas - all clear for me too. Try not to worry!

getmeavodka · 31/01/2023 18:54

I have had exactly the same today and have been referred under the two week priority pathway for biopsy and blood test. This was picked up on a scan to search for my lost coil.

FannythePinkFlamingo · 31/01/2023 19:01

I had this aged 48, although not post menopausal. Mine was cancer. BUT, uterine cancer is very treatable if caught early, and indeed nearly three years later I'm fine. Try not to worry OP. It sounds like you are in good hands and they are just being cautious.

BestIsWest · 31/01/2023 19:03

Exactly this twice, on HRT aged 56 and 58. Had a hysteroscopy both times and all was fine.

lljkk · 31/01/2023 19:12

"slightly more thickened" is slightly. You'll be fine!!

Thank you so much everyone. 🥰

Your collective responses have really helped me ground myself over the last 24hrs. I can be a terrible health worrier after being diagnosed with a rare congenital heart defect in my late 40s. Came out of the blue.

Those of you who were diagnosed as having cancer - a special thank you for taking the time to post. I hope you continue to do well and thank you again for your positivity.

I am in a similar position with the occasional pink tinge.. clear bloods and swabs and internal and external scan Transvaginal ultrasound scan showed a thickening to my lining and referred back to GP for a referral for a camera… i am 36 and admittedly trying to stay realistic and positive but completely worried sick…

BeaLittleBraver · 26/02/2025 08:04

@Shoeshopper08 how are you doing now? I am in exact same position, 38, just about to start ivf and this...
