Hi all,

I'm 55 and had my last period 3 years ago.

I didn't get any hot flushes or physical problems so I haven't gone to the GP and am not on any medication at all.

It's now clear that my memory is shocking and I have no libido at all.

I guess these have come on gradually, but now I can't remember things agree in a meeting just hours ago, and I never fancy sex at all (unlike pre-menopause).

I phoned my GP and asked for an appointment to discuss symptoms I'm having post-menopause.

The receptionist was very kind and said she would book me a telephone appointment with the practice nurse who deals with this.

My phone call is in a couple of weeks.

Can anyone advise me what I can expect? I can't go on with memory like this, so that's a priority, and it would be very nice to feel a bit more in the mood too.

Hi, I had my over the phone appointment today with a nurse practitioner. She was great, lots of questions regarding symptoms, mood, libido, etc date of last period. General medical questions on family history, migraines, clotting issues, cancer. I had recently been weighed and had BP recorded by the practice nurse. Questions about last smear and mammogram and if up to date.

General info about HRT, benefits of transdermal oestrogen. Asked what I had been thinking and then organised a prescription. She was able to tell me which pharmacies get better supplies and gave me a couple of pharmacy phone numbers to ring to check they could dispense it. She was able to send the prescription in such a way that any of the pharmacies could access it. She advised of possible side effects and I will have a 3 month trial and then review.

Wow, thanks so much for that thorough response, @vjg13, that's so helpful.

She sounds excellent. I hope I have a similar experience.

It was a really positive experience and very thorough. I had decided beforehand that I wanted the oestrogen gel (I have had issues with adhesives on dressings previously so was a bit concerned about patches) and the progesterone capsules but she seemed to be leaning that way anyway as it is easier to increase the amount of pumps of gel used if necessary.
