Treatment for rage/pmt style symptoms

Hi all, m
So glad I found this board.
Think I'm in the early stages of peri. Hard to tell as I have the Mirena coil which completely stopped all bleeding.

I feel like all my symptoms are manageable/tolerable so far. With the exception of the emotional side. I'm so snappy, short tempered, full of rage.

I'm not against hrt and will book an appointment with my gp to discuss (and to confirm it's defo peri I'm experiencing).

However, has anyone come across anything other than hrt that helps with these symptoms? I keep getting a lot of targeted ads for herbal drinks/vitamins etc and wondered if there is something else I could try while the other symptoms are manageable?

Thanks!

My DM used to take Starflower Oil (tablet form). We absolutely noticed the difference when she forgot it once when we went on holiday.

How old are you?

If you are over 45 there is no way your GP can 'confirm' peri menopause. Blood tests on hormones are only done on younger women, because a diagnosis of early or premature menopause is always treated with HRT.

There isn't much point trying herbal things. There is no real evidence they work (some herbs may work for hot flushes, St Johns Wort for depression) but they can take 3 months to make any difference. A lot of the 'evidence' is actually a placebo effect.

If you want to avoid hrt for the moment, there's more evidence that things like mindfulness, meditation, (apps like Headspace) breathing exercises, yoga, regular exercise outside, etc can help.

Thanks @JinglingSpringbells I'm only 40.
My mum had early menopause but I was thinking it could potentially be peri at this point?

If I can actually get a GP appointment I wouldn't be against hrt at all, I just assumed they couldn't diagnose via a blood test if I didn't know my cycle days?

I've not had a period or any spotting in 7 months due to mirena. I actually got the Mirena coil due to irregular and very heavy periods and im now wondering if that could have been the start of peri?

From what you have posted now- family history and all that- it could well be an early menopause. This is a medical condition and treated with HRT to prevent bone loss and heart disease.

TBH I'd not faff about trying other stuff, I'd ask for estrogen (you don't need anything else as the Mirena is giving you the progestogen but it has a life of 4 years as part of HRT).

Your blood tests may not be reliable as you are on the Mirena.

Basically, with HRT the proof of the pudding and all that....
If it works, you needed it.

Thanks @JinglingSpringbells I'll just go and the see the GP.

My extremely heavy and irregular periods were put down to endometriosis (I'm not straight forward 😂)

But I also have a history of bone density issues in my family so sounds like it's def worth getting checked

I take starflower tablets and they do nothing for my mood. They make my skin look great though so I'll keep taking them for that alone!
