So 'apparently' I have been perimenopausal for years. I'm 47.

My cycle has obviously been the standard 'when is it coming?' for a long time. Sometimes I have a 19 day cycle, other times it's 50+ days, it's so random.. however, the last few months I've been getting bleeding mid cycle and this month I bled from the 29/12 - 8/1 and then I started bleeding again on the 13/1 and I still am. Alongside that (whether it's associated or not) I've had TERRIBLE lower back pain for about 3 weeks. Been to the docs about that and they gave me amitriptyline which has done nothing. It's 6.30am and I've slept for 2 hours due to the pain when I make the slightest movement.

Is this all peri or should I go back and discuss further? I've not mentioned the extra bleeding 'cause I don't want to make a fuss if it's normal.

TIA.

Go back and see someone else. Assuming irregular bleeding is menopausal without any examination is foolish.

you need someone to have a feel and look at your cervix as a minimum. Are you smears up to date and previously normal?

Id personally suggest an ultrasound to check ovaries and some blood tests to check for anaemia.

may well be menopause but need to confirm all looks ok first.

You need to mention the extra bleeding as that, along with the backache, could be a symptom of something else. I’d expect an examination and to be sent for a scan.

@Pinkyandtwerky

I had abnormal cells found in a couple of smears about 10-12 years ago and had to have colposcopies done on two separate occasions.

My last smear was about 2 years ago and that was normal.

Mid cycle bleeding in peri is very common because it's often down to lack of ovulation or low progesterone.

And although it has been mid cycle, it can also be classed as irregular bleeding, with lots of 'mini' periods- typically peri.

To be on the safe side it is probably normal for peri.
However, your gp should perhaps send you for a scan to check.

It won't be classed as urgent / 2 weeks like post menopause bleeding.
