Post menopause, Mirena, acne and small bleed ...

I'm 59, about five years post menopause. In February 2021 and again in August 2022 I had transvaginal scans, hysteroscopies, polypectomies and biopsies (all benign) under general anaesthetic. Both times I'd had slight post menopausal bleeding. Last time I was casually persuaded to consent to having a Mirena coil put in to replace my combi patch.

Since then I've had several acne outbreaks (I've had it fairly mildly on and off since my teens). This last week has been a bit tediously zitty - and today I had another small bleed.

😔

So I'm calling the doctor Monday morning ... I guess it's back on the gynae conveyor belt.

Anyone else out there so fed up with this?

What is it with the desire to get all women to use a mirena coil? I saw a uro-gynae before Xmas who jumped straight to the mirena in the same breath as telling me I need to start taking HRT.

I'm all up for HRT but hardly got the chance to tell him I'd tried it before and didn't like it.

Is it much cheaper than prescribing body identical progestegens?

I hope you get a solution OP and start to feel better soon.

It’s the progesterone in the coil.

Happened to me with the implant they had to remove it and send me to dermatology in the end.

I'm peri-menopausal and my GP keeps banging on about the coil. I don't want it, never have done. As the thought of getting it out in triggers ptsd from child birth.

Surely, there must be better help out there for us?!

There’s been a push for long acting reversible contraception for years.

My colleague had the copper coil pre kids about 10 years ago, had it taken out after her honeymoon.

I have the Mirena, it worked out well for me as I couldn’t tolerate utrogestan (emotional, anxiety, tiredness, hairy face, stomach pains, dizziness, headaches etc) and meant I didn’t have the hormonal ups and downs of stopping and starting (despite whatever my body was doing). The coil did give me mild acne for I would say about 4 months on and off and headaches for around 2 weeks. This however was much preferable to the tablets for me. The side effects did wear off.
