I'm 46 and first made an appointment to see my GP about HRT in early October last year. My main symptoms were low mood and lack of interest in things. I had also had some joint pain and feeling hot in the night but not excessively. This seems to have stopped in recent months. A year before this I was put on desogestrel mini pill to see if it would stop hormonal headaches- it eventually did. It also took a year for my periods to stop. I was told my first appointment about HRT would actually be with the pharmacist and despite high hopes, I felt I knew more than they did. It was decided to opt for the Mirena as that could be the progesterone part of HRT but also provide contraception. For various reasons (illness, stock issues, appointment waiting times), my appointment to get the Mirena fitted with my GP is this week- they assured me they will also write a prescription for estrogen. At first I was encouraged about Mirena after hearing that it has a seventh of the hormones of the mini pill, but the longer I've had to think about things I'm worried the mini pill actually prevents things like the headaches I was getting before. I also sleep really well. I don't feel brilliant mood and energy wise but I'm scared of making things worse rather than better. Does anyone have experience of switching from mini pill to Mirena? I'm wondering if I should count my blessings and keep things as they are.. but I guess I'll then have a few weeks of really low mood (I've suffered from terrible PMT for years).. then wish I'd tried the HRT! It also took months for irregular bleeding to stop on the mini pill. I've heard that unlike the mini pill, you still ovulate with Mirena (it's a different progesterone), so would that mean more hormonal fluctuation?!
