Nightwear to help with night sweats?

beachhutenvy · 07/01/2023 18:03

Hi all. I'm awaiting further scans before hopefully starting HRT.

I normally wear cotton vest but wake during the night with it soaking. It's horrible. Definitely not too hot. I take my vest off during the night.

This week I actually moved onto the other side of the bed as the bedding was damp too.

Whilst I can't start HRT is there anything else I can try please? Specifically nightwear. Any recommendations?

I don't drink alcohol and generally fit and well.

Thankyou

personally i dont wear anything lol but kidding aside a light cotton nightdress and lie on top of the duvet

veneeroftheyear · 07/01/2023 18:31

Not nightwear but do you have a wool duvet? I found it helped a bit with temperature regulation.

beachhutenvy · 07/01/2023 18:54

I've read that a wool duvet could help.

I would be freezing lying on top of it. I'm not too hot. Definitely a hormone thing not a temperature thing.

It's being cold and wet that wakes me up. Sad

OP, have a look at become clothing: I've bought a couple of nightdresses from them, and always sleep better when wearing them, as I'm not waking up due to being too hot.

Not menopausal but since giving birth 6 months ago I've suffered from awful hormonal night sweats. Until recently, I was changing nightwear 3x a night as they were soaking, as were bedsheets... and then I'd be freezing! I'd read wearing cotton was recommended, but it didn't help at all. I've actually found wearing satin much better...it hasn't stopped the sweats by any means, but it's much more comfortable for me. Now when I do wake, the satin nightwear isn't damp in the same way or if it's been a bad night, its dry again after a quick nip to the loo!

I've just been wearing a satin camisole style top with either shorts... or nightdress.

I hope it gets better soon!

I've had night sweats for years
I tie my hair up
Sleep on a towel
Fold a pillow case into 1/4: and put inside the top of my T-shirt (my head and neck and chest sweat the most)
It absorbs the sweat before it goes on the duvet

Also there is a drug that can be px. To stop this symptom although my Gp did not give me it

beachhutenvy · 08/01/2023 21:34

Thanks so much. Will check out these suggestions.

I slept without a top last night and still woke up a few times but was preferable to waking up soaking.

Have you tried cuddling a towel and sleeping topless? Then you should wake up with a wet towel instead of wet x

Try Esteem No Pause clothing

I know this will not be everyone's cup of tea, but I wear a sports type wicking top to bed. When I don't wear it, I sweat buckets. It's the only thing that works for me and keeps me cool. I wear one from Trespass called the Edith and would be lost without it. Might be worth a try if nothing else is working.

SophiaLarsen · 09/01/2023 11:36

HRT is helping me with this but I have found what's best is silk PJs. My sweats tend to me down my legs so pJs work best and I managed to get some in the sale at John Lewis. They wick the sweat really well and dry so fast you don't feel it. However before HRT I also got them across my head (fun) and while I have a silk pillowcase it's not the same. Towel would work I suppose.

If your sweats are not leg bases like mine, M&S do cool comfort slips that are nice. A fan on in the room helps too.

Cranarc · 09/01/2023 19:01

Before HRT I slept on a towel and wore long-sleeved bamboo PJs. Kept a spare pillow by the side of the bed along with spare PJs. When I woke up drenched and cold it was pretty easy and quick to fling out the towel, swap the pillow and change the PJs without too much faff.

Pinkallium · 09/01/2023 19:03

HRT stopped this instantly for me. Good luck OP x

bellinisurge · 09/01/2023 19:05

HRT stopped it for me too. Why can't you start HRT, if you are ok to answer that?

veneeroftheyear · 09/01/2023 21:11

Good luck op. The constant waking is exhausting. I hope you are able to start HRT soon - it stopped my sweats within a couple of days - but if you're not, I found menopace sage extract helped to lesson them.

Thanks so much everyone - I really appreciate it.

I asked for HRT and GP sent me for a scan. An ovarian cyst was found. I have a rescan booked in a few weeks.

So really it depends what's happening with that.

I will say that night sweats and fatigue are biggest menopause issues for me.

Broken sleep is shit but broken sleep waking in wet clothing is another level of discomfort!

I am exploring all clothing suggestions now. Smile

@beachhutenvy - dying to know if you had any luck?

beachhutenvy · 15/02/2023 17:36

Well it took a dark turn as I had another scan since and have an endrometrioma

I'm literally sat in the waiting room to be seen by gynae consultant.

Not the update anyone was expecting!

Night sweats haven't been such an issue for the last few weeks though 🤔

Oh - I'm sorry to hear that, hope the appointment goes ok. Sending you very good wishes!

2bazookas · 15/02/2023 18:32

Make sure you have quilted cotton mattress and pillow protectors under the sheet and pillowcases.
Use pure cotton sheets (much cooler than polycotton)
Thin loose cotton nightie.
My preference is pure linen pillowcases; I turn them over in the night to get the cool side.

No heating in the bedroom and keep the window (locked) open all night.

2bazookas · 15/02/2023 18:35

Forgot to mention sage capsules and evening primrose capsules helped a lot (both me during menopause, and DH having heavy night sweats during cancer hormone treatment.

Sorry you are going through this.
Info shows that what you have is endometriosis on your ovary and it's still a cyst, filled with blood.

Worst case, they might remove one ovary or wait and see if it disappears naturally.

Ovarian cysts or endo or not a contraindication to HRT so hopefully this will all be sorted soon.

Abra1t · 15/02/2023 18:40

I have a wool duvet.

I hope they sort you out soon and you can take HRT as well.

RiverSkater · 15/02/2023 18:48

Bamboo is a good to sleep in - Bam clothing
