Utrogestan query

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 31/12/2022 16:50

I’m 56 and been on continuous Utrogestan 100mg and eostrogel 2 pumps a day.
I’ve had two bleeds this year which were investigated by gynae and last one found that I’m still in peri phase despite GP doing bloods last year which showed I was post meno.
my GP is seeing me next week but has advised me to increase to continuous 200mg Utrogestan for time being.
Keep feeling very grumpy and tired and not sure if that.
I was ok on 100mg and don’t really want to increase my dose.

No answers for you, sorry but I have been on patches plus utrogestan for about 9 months and have recently had a bleed for the first time in well over a year. Shortly before this I had a COVID booster, and there seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence linking vaccines to menstrual interference. Just wondered if it may have been the cause of yours too?

NewNovember · 31/12/2022 22:28

I took 400mg a day for months for ivf with no issue why wouldn't you want to increase ?

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 01/01/2023 09:27

I’ve also had IVF in the past and it didn’t agree with me either.
it makes me feel pretty ropey.
Just at a bit of a loss what to do next- I’ve had two mirena coils and when the last one came out a year ago I really thought I wouldn’t still bleed but seems like I’ve had a few ‘last hurrahs’ and I might just have to put up with the odd bleed. A bit rubbish when you thought you were post menopausal

Take vaginally? Or one of them vaginally?

Purpleavocado · 01/01/2023 10:46

Louise Newson days to take vaginally if it gives you an issue, half the dose. So one tablet would be your new half dose.

WarriorN · 01/01/2023 11:15

BMS now say same dose if taken vaginally.

NewNovember · 01/01/2023 11:47

Sorry I assumed you were taking it vaginally. I think if it didn't agree with you with ivf either and that wasn't orally a different drug would be better.

@Allfurcoatandnoknickers Your GP or the gynae ought to have chosen the obvious solution.

As you are in peri still, you need a sequential regime.
200mgs x 12 days per calender month.

If women start continuous too early, they get odd bleeding- as you have had.

Your GP sounds clueless. If you had investigations recently showing you are in peri, why is he still suggesting a combined continuous regime?

The way forward is simple- why don't they know?

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 01/01/2023 12:42

It’s slightly worrying. I’m seeing her next week so will see about getting the vaginal Utrogestan.
I think she’d suggested the increased dose as a temporary measure before I saw her.
I took 100mg last night (my old regime) and will be sticking with that for now

@Allfurcoatandnoknickers I'd not advise to 'see her' about vaginal Utrogestan.

What's not been said here is that it's not licensed for vaginal use anyway in the UK. In theory, GPs are not allowed to prescribe it that way as it's off-licence, although they can use their discretion. She may refuse. In which case you can do what some women do - use it that way, anyway. It's the same capsules- use 2.

It's mainly however to reduce side effects.

If you are not 12 months post meno, the guidance is to stick with sequential.

JinglingXmasbells · 01/01/2023 14:28

A bit rubbish when you thought you were post menopausal

The problem is that any post meno bleeding should be reported and investigated. Bleeding for up to 6 months (mainly spotting not full periods) is expected once women change to continuous. After 6 months it's investigated.

You could be in a situation where you are constantly having to have investigations, as they won't know if it's your normal 'fertility' still, or something that shouldn't be happening.

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 01/01/2023 16:15

This is what’s been happening. I’ve experienced two full blown periods since my mirena was removed a year ago and both have been investigated by a Gynae consultant. No issues were found.
