splitting gel dose?

Struggling to get to grips with this gel, not sure it's agreeing with me but it's only been a week and I shall persevere.

Using 4 pumps as directed by specialist, all at once in the morning. Have been reading that some doctors recommend that you split your dose morning and evening - is anyone doing this and that's the rationale behind it?

Done it that way for years. I can't imagine applying 4 pumps at once! It must take ages to dry.
I use 2 pumps max a day and use 1 in the morning and one before bed. It's very common to do am and pm, as it means there is a constant supply spread over 24 hours.

I too have 4 pumps - 2 on my arms and 2 on inner thighs. I found applying in the evening affected my sleep so tried splitting to morning and evening, but just found it too much faff, so have settled on all 4 in the morning.

If it’s only been a week then things probably won’t be taking effect yet. It could be you are still getting peri/menopause symptoms.

But to add, I think the rationale behind splitting the dose is to give a more steady delivery of oestrogen.

I switched to the gel as the doctor thought I wasn't absorbing from the patches - that and I'm allergic to the glue on Evorel patches which appears to be the only brand we can source reliably at the moment.

Sleeping is an issue - not getting to sleep, but waking early and not being able to get back to sleep.

Interestingly I have just googled about splitting the dose of HRT and have come across this guidance from NHS tayside which is aimed at GPs

www.nhstaysideadtc.scot.nhs.uk/approved/guidance/HRT%20Quick%20Reference.pdf

Interesting stuff showing that 100 mcg Estradot is unavailable (which I have experienced but the NHS says no issues) and says on the gel "If using more than minimal dose- consider dividing application of estradiol gel into two takes- AM and evening."

Interesting.

I’m also on 4 pumps and found that doing 3 in the morning and one in the evening works best for me. 2 at night seemed to rev me up a bit and affect my precious sleep.
