I am 58 and last had a period nearly two years ago and stopped HRT over a year ago as I was diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines and my GP felt HRT might be contributing to this.

This month I had all the symptoms of ovulation with mucus and painful breasts and had all my usual pre-menstrual symptoms after this and had some light brown bleeding this morning.

I know normally post menopausal bleeding should be checked, but am unsure if it is necessary in this case? Any thoughts/advice welcome.

I don't have any answers, but what I can say is that if this happened to me (and I am the same age as you) I'd be having a chat to my GP.

Thank you. I have filled out an E Consult so will see what they say.

Yes.

You definitely need this looked at with an u/s scan of your womb.

It's over 2 years since your last period. The rule is any bleeding 12 months or more later needs checking out. It would be highly unusual to be ovulating at 58, but not completely unheard of.

Get checked out!

Yes, depending on the specifics I would send this either for an urgent USS for endometrial assessment or alternatively an urgent (2 week) referral depending on what the local pathway was.

To be clear, the vast vast majority of these do not turn out to be anything nasty but it certainly warrants assessment.

Yes and you’ll probably be referred for an ultrasound.

Not heard from the surgery today, but there was a link to click on the receipt message to say you hadn’t heard from them and I have sent that, so hoping to get somewhere tomorrow.

Just to update, I saw the doctor today, I have been referred for a scan, she doesn’t think it sounds too concerning but is unusual and definitely needs checking out. If I don’t get an appointment within the next 7-14 days I will need to contact the surgery to get it speeded up and I must let them know if there is an increase or change in the bleeding.

Glad you've seen your GP. Hope the scan goes well and everything settles down.

Had an appointment before Christmas and had a probe rather than a scan, they actually found and removed a polyp which was a bit painful, I was offered to have the procedure another day with sedation but was worried it might be a long wait.

Anyway I got the result today and it was benign, so good news.

Nice one OP, better out than in, now you don't need to worry. Good self care there.
