So my periods stopped in March this year. I've not had any signs of a period since.
I started having hot flushes which lasted literally seconds every now and then. Had a metallic taste in my mouth quite a lot and felt my patience wind to zero!

Then all that stopped, I've not had hot flushes or anything for a few weeks and today I've started bleeding!

Is this normal? Am I menopausal or not. I'm very confused!

Yes during peri menopause your periods can stop for a while and then restart.

You are only in ‘menopause’ when you haven’t had a period for a year. So you’ll be in peri.

Ah ok. So no point going to see about hrt yet then?

How old are you?

From our forties hormones fluctuate leading to erratic periods and issues like overheating, insomnia etc, this is peri. It isn't always a linear path so you may have months of overheating then nothing for a few months. Ditto periods etc. Menopause is classed as a year post last period.

The choice is yours. If you want hrt arrange a consult either phone, econsult or whatever. Say you are whatever age (I presume mid/late forties) you've read the NICE guidelines and want to try HRT.

Or, see how you go. Expect fluctuations with sleep, some aches and pains but not everyone needs hrt so lifestyle changes like exercise to help with sleep and cutting out booze and caffeine will help.

You are probably in perimenopause. Your levels of female hormones are going up and down erratically. You've clearly returned to "normal" temporarily but the menopausal symptoms will return, more frequently and lasting longer, until your periods finally stop. Symptoms can and usually do continue after your last period.
