Superdrug is selling testosterone

So I noticed Superdrug are selling testosterone for women. Its all about libido, and you have to fill in an online form for their online doctor. £18 for 3 satchets which is a months supply I think.

My GP say she can't prescribe me testosterone (and I have checked the local formulary for my area and she is right) but she also won't refer me to a local consultant (plus there is an 18 month wait anyway).

Thinking of trying the Superdrug route - anyone had testosterone from there without the help of their GP? Doesn't look like you need a prescription but I am not sure.

Hi, unfortunately Pharmacy4U only prescribe it for men and they want the prescriptionfrom your gp.

It's outrageous really, the difference in pricing, although a man would need a whole sachet per day so at £1.30 per day it would be over £30 per month.

SadSausage44 · 09/09/2023 09:39

No idea but mine came back at 0.4 which is the bottom of what they say is the 'normal' range.

PricklyWhenWet · 09/09/2023 10:38

Took it for a year, felt a bit more energised to start with but actually think this was just because I expected to. It did absolutely nothing for my libido sadly. I’ve been unable to get it from the pharmacy for last couple of months so I’ve had to stop and I’ve noticed zero difference. I’ll carry on with HRT but must admit I do suspect the whole T thing is a bit misleading and a bit of a craze that everyone is getting caught up in.

Can I ask how people are getting on with their testosterone? My results have come back as 0.5 which apparently is normal, but seems on the low side.

DontBeGrossTammy · 01/10/2023 10:13

Omg yes! I had a friend who used testosterone gel a few years back, it was like mostly musk from the body shop in the 90s. Yummy!

FreddiesTeeth · 01/10/2023 10:33

Currently paying a small fortune to the Newson Clinic for the blood test/consultation/letter that my GP insists on before they'll issue prescriptions. 🙄
My Testogel is meant to last 5 days not 8 but I know my levels are still low. I put it down to my super-waterproof skin 😄

I just ordered from Superdrug with no requirement to take test.

sunshinesupermum · 01/10/2023 11:35

I stopped my prescribed testosterone earlier this year as I didn't find it did much for me other than produce excess hair on my face and legs and thinning hair on my head!

How? This doesn't seem possible on their website?

CosyCoffee · 01/10/2023 12:30

Ok so I just requested it from Superdrug! Fingers crossed it is approved by their doctors without having to pay for the test.

Scottishflower65 · 01/10/2023 17:38

Had to upload identity but seems approved now.

CosyCoffee · 03/10/2023 15:12

I've just been messaged by Superdrug that my order has been cancelled because I haven't had a testosterone test. Even though I ticked the box saying I hadn't had one at the very start, they still took my money AND requested two lots of id from me which I went to the trouble of uploading. Very frustrating.

olderbutwiser · 03/10/2023 15:20

You need to be careful with the "normal" female testosterone data - there's a difference between "normal" and "good", and especially what's "normal" in the menopausal woman. From what I can see "normal" can include 0.1, which isn't helpful.

My libido has been transformed by testosterone, but my other HRT was adjusted first to make sure it was optimised (otherwise the testosterone converts into a kind of oestrogen).

That said, when I first started taking it I had a startling insight into the life of a 15yo boy - it felt very physical, obtrusive and a bit irritating. Thank god I didn't have a penis to show me up. That has settled now.

A functioning libido won't transform your relationship either - if not wanting sex with him is more about him than you then you need to look elsewhere for a solution.

Freebritney · 14/12/2023 11:36

Has anyone who said they where using Superdrug for testosterone used the Superdrug testosterone test kit for women? How does this work? I can't imagine how I can draw my own blood and the website gives little information.

It's a small vial that you fill by pricking your finger with a lancet - if you do the things it suggests (including soak your hand it in warm water and wave your arms around a bit) it's surprising how quickly you can fill it. Bit of a faff but I have done it a few times for different tests and it's doable as long as you follow the steps carefully (read them all before you start!)

If you want acne on your face and back, head hair loss and body/facial hair gain - which are some of the side effects women experience on testosterone. Exogenous testosterone is really not that great for women (look at how detransitioners have faired), but seems to be the latest trend in private prescribing.

Pharmacies are having dreadful trouble obtaining testogel for the men who actually need it at the moment.

This is absolute nonsense. Testosterone is a natural female hormone and the amount prescribed to women in menopause is in no way comparable to the much higher dosage given to someone transitioning (most of whom are quite happy with the masculinising effects since that's why they took it in the first place). It's an absolute gamechanger for some women in menopause. They need it too, and supplier issues shouldn't be turned into a competition about who is more worthy. Everyone should have access to the HRT they need.

Isaidnomorecrisps · 18/12/2023 23:18

I LOVE it - from Newson, Androfemme.

It is a game changer for me - HRT stopped flushes, aches, some of the insomnia - but the brain fog and knackeredness persisted.

T makes me feel strong, so weird, and my clarity returned. I’m not as tired either.

You have to be “fully oestrogenised” as someone said above otherwise it turns into oestrogen.

Only downside for me was after three months or so the small blob was too much for me (I am 8 stone but no idea if that’s why) and I started getting the start of panic attacks - seems anecdotally to happen in one guise or another. So I cut it down dramatically and it’s fine, very small peas every other day.

I didn’t have untamed hair growth etc luckily.

Batlady78 · 18/12/2023 23:43

I did the blood test via Superdrug but they said it was within the normal range. I just want something to get my brain working again! I'm on two squirts of oestrogel each morning at the moment; I'd love to feel like my old self again.
