Charges for 1 year HRT prescription with 3 months limit

My GP gave me a prescription for a year, and I was so happy! But I found out at the pharmacy that I could only get a 3 months' supply at a time, and they say I would have to pay each time.
I'm wondering if my pharmacy is not understanding the prescription correctly as the government's website says "Women who have a prescription for more than 3 months but are only able to access 3 months’ supply will not have to pay an additional prescription charge."
What are your experiences with this type of prescription?

The 12 months for one payment has been delayed till April 23. (if it ever happens at all now.)

There is a 3-month limit on all HRT because of the shortages.

So annoying & sexist!

Thank you. GP and pharmacy didn't explain this to me. Let's hope it will take place in April 23.

It is sexist @CantSleepCountingSheep because men don't get 12 months for the price of 1 that aren't means tested. :)

I think the whole thing will be trashed given the state of the NHS and - may not be popular to say this- but I can't understand why women who don't qualify for free prescriptions should have their HRT paid for by tax payers, as some will be high earners and quite able to pay.

Why is the pill and other contraception free for all then? If they don't bring in free hrt they really need to look at other items which are free.

Contraception is free because some people who are sexually active are not working (still at school and college) and have no income. It's also not limited to women- men can get free condoms.

I am assuming that the HRT you use is one of them covered by the serious shortage protocol www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/pharmacies-gp-practices-and-appliance-contractors/serious-shortage-protocols-ssps

One of my scripts was for just over three months worth, so I was issued with slightly less than 3 months worth as the pharmacy would not budge on giving me an extra bottle which would have lasted a couple of days over three months. I didn’t have to pay for that as per the SSP.
