I take Utrogestan 100mg tablets (I have patches too) - I don't take a break and take it continuously. I doubled checked it the last time I was at GP's and it was correct. Mine also says take at bedtime from day 1 to 25.

If you were still having periods before starting it I think you take a week off. I was past that when I started on it so take it daily with no breaks.

Thank you, portalooSunset

If your periods have stopped you take 1 capsule every day. Ignore the 25 days as this is old prescribing. The continuous dose is daily.

If your periods have not atopped, you take 2 capsules for 12 days per month starting on any day but keep to the day each month.
eg 10 Nov, 10 Dec, 10 Jan.

You will normally have a withdrawal bleed each month on that regime which will become your HRT cycle (not your own cycle.)

@PortalooSunset no, that's incorrect. you start the , same day as using the gel.

I fully expect them to say 25 days but be aware that specialists have - for a long time now- overridden that and say use daily, the same as the dose in patches and pills.

The 3 day break is supposed to allow for a mini- bleed but it so rarely happens that it's been decided by most specialists that it's not necessary.

SimpleHoardOfTruth · 09/11/2022 18:28

And I would stick to the one a day regime, not two per day for 12 days of the month as another poster suggests. Taking two together you are much more likely to have weird side effects (like being sedated).

Huh? I didn't say to not do that?

Mine say 2 tabs at night day 15-28.

Wish it was explained better

Thank you all , been going through this for 9 years and just been left to get on with it ,as I said my doctors are not good when it comes to the menopause, There was a lady doctor that worked there that delt with the menopause, she was not nice to me and told to just get on with it , and why would I want to put poison in my body , and that women just got on with it in the olden days , so don't have much faith in doctors x

Your dr should have explained fully@Pmj

If you have periods and are under age 54 it's usual to stick to a cyclical regime at first for a while.
This mimics a cycle - so that is estrogen daily and 200mgs Utrogestan for 12 days a month.
you set this new cycle by taking 12 days on the same day each month.

if you are post meno (no period for 12 months or over 54) you can use progesterone daily. This is the no-bleed type.

if you start no-bleed too soon in peri you can end up with irregular bleeding.

Pmj · 09/11/2022 19:29

@JinglingXmasbells not heard back from the doctors hope they ring tomorrow if not will do the 12 days and see how I get on I am 53 ,have light periods last about 3 days x

Sorry to hijack your thread op but i have a similar question. I am 47 and as far as I'm aware still have periods. I've been using evorel conti 75 with 100mg of utrogestan every day for the last year. This regime was prescribed by a menopause consultant as my moods are shit and she said this would regulate them.
I'm feeling crap to be honest And my sleep is getting worse.

Anyway, so I think I'll try the 200mgs utrogestan 12 days a month to see if that helps. Does anyone know can I just start doing that whenever? Or should i wait for a particular day? When does a bleed start after the 12 utrogestan tablet? It would be useful if I wasn't bleeding at Xmas 😬

I went the other way round - started on the 2 pills of utrogestan for 12 days of the month but I had really heavy periods and awful moods so I saw a specialist who put me on 1 tablet a night for 25 days of the month as she said it should reduce the bleeding and even out my moods. I think it's a bit better than the cyclical regime but not much tbh. I still got periods when I had a mirena coil too, so I think I have low background progesterone levels anyway though. I'm also the same age as you.

Jonaskahnwaldplease · 12/11/2022 16:09

@Millivachilly hmm interesting. I think I'll try the 12 day thing and see how it goes. My moods were never great on the combi pill where I got a withdrawal bleed but I suppose hrt is different. I still get a bleed most months on continuous utrogestan anyway so I'm used to it really .

Sorry its not worked well for you, I feel I'm going to be the same. I asked my doctor for evorel 100 patches instead of 75 to see if that will help any. I had to take a blood test so she could see my level of oestradiol. (238 pmol/L ) Not sure why, it's going to fluctuate anyway 🤔 I'll see what she prescribes me next week.
