Joint Pain, HRT?

bushtailadventures · 09/11/2022 06:05

I've been suffering with pain in my hips and feet since I had my last period 9 months ago, thought it was arthritis due to wear and tear (I'm 52 and fat). I, for some reason, have just had another period and my joint pain improved a lot during it. I have an appointment next week to discuss the hip pain, but thinking I should ask about HRT instead of pain relief.

Considering a week ago I thought I might have to give up work because of the pain I don't really know what to think at the moment. Any advice would be very welcome!

I had really bad hip and knee pain and a few weeks into Hrt it was much improved, definitely worth a try

Although hrt hasn't worked for me overall, it did improve the joint and muscle aches a bit. But what has helped far more is swimming. I positively creaked when I first got in the pool a couple of months ago, but now I move much more easily. A dip in the jacuzzi/loaf in the sauna after is probably part of the success!

Thank You for the replies, my appointment is tomorrow and I'm going to go in as informed as I can be. I want to feel like me again, able to take dgd out without planning where I can sit down, and be enthusiastic about things I used to love and can't be bothered with at the moment.

Try collagen supplements as well to help with the joint pain.

jennymac31 · 19/11/2022 00:07

@FlamingBells - do you have any recommendations of collagen supplements, as my joint pain is getting progressives worse. My bupa consultant won't prescribe HRT until I get a dexascan (as they don't do them) and it's a nightmare trying to book a doctor's appointment for the scan.

How did gp visit go? I'm also 52 and feeling so achey. When I stand up from sitting I hobble for a bit and it's embarrassing, especially at work. I feel so ancient!

bushtailadventures · 20/11/2022 07:32

@Mmmmdanone I got a prescription for Femseven Conti patches...we talked about all my symptoms, some of them I hadn't even thought might be linked but the dr thought they were. It was remarkably easy, I went in prepared to argue but she listened to me and agreed that HRT was worth a try.

Now I just have to actually put one on, they had to be ordered so I only got them yesterday and as they have to be changed weekly I'm thinking of the best time so I can stick to a schedule
