Peri menopause and adenomyosis

Hi, looking for some advice before I approach my GP yet again...

I'm 46 and on hrt (oestrogel 3 pumps daily plus 14 days er 28 of micronised progesterone) for about 7 months now. Doing ok on this regime. But I've got adenomyosis and the heavy periods make me anaemic. I take iron daily but still have low iron stores. I can't have a mirena coil as that progesterone makes me depressed and gives me acne.

My question is, can I take the progesterone for longer in order to have a period less often eg have a period every two months instead of monthly? Would it work and are there risks? I understand that it's really important that I do take the progesterone in order to thin the lining as much as possible, so I can't prolong the oestrogen-only bit of the cycle without risk the way women can when they are further along in peri. But I only ever bleed AFTER stopping the progesterone, so I'm guessing it would work...?

Any advice about this, or other ways women have handled any similar situation, would be really helpful as I think my GP is getting sick of my questions and will try yet again to force a mirena on me.

Bumping for you. did you find any answers?

I see your post is a month old now.

Did you get any answers elsewhere @Anaemicandtired

You could try using progesterone daily.

This is the way post-meno women use it. The daily dose of progesterone counteracts the effects of estrogen, stimulating growth of the uterine lining.

In women who have their own periods (still) the 100mgs daily is sometimes not enough to balance the estrogen effect and this can result in bleeding either monthly (normal period) or unexpectedly, as spotting.

However as you are suffering, it's worth a try.

Thank you both. I actually saw a gynecologist the other day who has told me to use 200mcg progesterone continuously. Hopefully it will mean no periods, but I might get some unscheduled spotting. Spotting would be amazing compared to what I have going on at the moment. I'm very hopeful.
