The Coil, HRT and Heavy Periods

My periods have now got out of control. Very heavy with flooding and cramps on at least 2 days per month.

Sequential HRT, patches, Utrogestan on days 1-12.

Scan revealed a tiny fibroid.

Gynaecologist has said my only option is the coil instead of Utrogestan.

I've never fancied the coil. But I hate the mess I'm in every month now.

Anyone with any thoughts/experience to share please?

I had serial mirenas from 1994 until last year, when my 63 year old cervix finally snapped shut. I genuinely wanted to keep my last one and have it gold plated but the GP just laughed. It worked for me for contraception and for HRT for years and years. Initial 6 weeks were iffy (spotting mini periods) then no more periods or PMT forever.

Do you still take HRT? I cannot imagine ever giving up my oestrogen!

@Dilbertian absolutely, including testosterone. They will have to prise it out of my cold dead hands (although I’m not sure whether it’s fair to expect a carer to apply the ovestin for me).

Likewise!

I had mine fitted at a sexual health clinic @Glitterbiscuits . I might have got thus wrong but I think there's a weird thing where GPs often can't fit them but sexual health clinics are only funded to fit them for contraception. So you might have to say you want it for contraception even if you don't.

My GP fitted mine at the surgerys coil clinic on Thursday. The whole experience was pretty painless except my hip, opening my legs so wide hurts due to hyper mobility.
Iv had very light spotting since which is nothing compared to the horrendous periods I'd been used to. I'm hoping my periods will stop soon Iv had as much of them as I can take Confused

I refused mirena and all hormonal contraception for my heavy periods. All it does is mask the issue and has never done much for me previously.

I had an ablation done instead. Fantastic! Worth every Penny
