Awful nausea and perimenopause

I’m getting nausea, indigestion, burping and acid. It really flares and is worse mid cycle.
Is this part of peri?
I am 50 in 4 months. I have seen 4 GPs over the last few years but they all seem pretty useless when it comes to peri/menopause, they completely dismiss all my other symptoms (hot sweats at night just before period, regular broken sleep, horrendous heavy periods & low iron, zero libido and dry, anxiety through the roof, very unstable emotionally, very depressed, awful digestive issues etc), they just keep offering antidepressants and overlooking all these other symptoms.
The nausea is getting me down, it’s like morning sickness.

I can really sympathise with you, I started with gastric issues and nausea, as you say like morning sickness.
I did abit of research and decided to go on the combined pill, I'm 40 so not sure if this is a possibility for you, but it really settled the gastric and nausea down.

However has done nothing for my anxiety, which is through the roof, literally don't drive anymore. So I've bit the bullet and paid for a private consultation with the Dr Naomi Potter clinic, to try and get to the bottom of all this. You should definitely have been given HRT given your age and symptoms

Thank you hsamantha, I don’t think I can go on the pill due to my age and the fact I suffer from aura migraines. I would like to give HRT a go (not sure if I can take it with aura migraines?) but GP won’t even acknowledge that I may be in peri. It is so frustrating, I will probably need to see someone privately even though it’s not something I can afford right now.

I’m your age and suffer exactly the same symptoms. GP also useless and I’m not on HRT. The only thing that worked for me was Avomine. It’s an OTC travel sickness pill and for a few days around my period (which I still get unfortunately) I use it to survive!

Septemberintherain · 06/11/2022 10:19

Thanks ammeg I have an appointment with my GP this week, I will ask her about the Avomine.

Hi, yes common in perimenopause and I also suffered and sometimes still do a little but HET helped. Your GP isn’t following the NICE guidelines for menopause, Google them, print them and take them with you to the appointment. Your symptoms are meant to be assessed using specific diagnostic procedures, based on symptoms alone. You aren’t being treated well by your GP at all. Ask for HRT, show the guidelines and insist they follow them or get a new GP. I’m sorry you’re suffering like this, it isn’t very nice.

Change your GP or ask to see the womens specialist at your practice. I have migraines and am on HRT. It has been transformative.

Yes, you can also ask to be referred to a menopause clinic.

I sometimes get something similar, just before (my regular as clockwork period) I will get intense nausea along with retching, being sick and a drop in blood pressure. Any form of exercise exacerbates it. It kicks in without warning and leaves me feeling weakened with intense tingling in hands & feet. Lasts about 30 mins.

Doctor (female) was sympathetic but said there was not much known about female hormones surrounding this. Grin and bear it was the message I got.

omnishambles WahineToa, It’s beyond frustrating. I’ve seen around 4 different GPs at 3 different surgeries since the age of 45. I list my symptoms (the digestive issues, anxiety, depression, up and down emotions, no libido and dry and sore, night sweats before my period, excessively heavy periods, broken nights sleep etc) but because I always mention the anxiety they all just focus on that, ignoring all the other issues and keep getting me to try antidepressants which exacerbate my stomach issues!
bigblueyonder I get similar, especially after exercise
