Peri and rubbish orgasms

BrassicaBabe · 01/11/2022 10:34

Just me? It's hard enough that libido has dropped. But even when I get to it my orgasms are rubbish. Kind of "muted". Will it always be like this?

(On HRT)

I'm the same. Not on hrt. Following for a miracle cure!

See if your Dr will prescribe testosterone. I started 6 weeks ago and still waiting for it to kick in, but been advised it takes about 3-6 months to notice the benefits: improved energy; mental clarity and response.

BrassicaBabe · 03/11/2022 22:09

Thanks Poppy. I've already had testosterone. At best it did nothing and maybe it increased my anxiety. Think I gave it a go for 3 months 😩

I had similar problems, I stated HRT patches then a while later testosterone gel, the testosterone really helped. It sometimes takes a while to get the right dosage for HRT, were you having regular blood tests every few months to check levels of oestrogen and testosterone? Sometimes there can be problems with absorption from patches or gels. I would also advise looking for something your husband and you can use together in sex toy catalogue. It took a few months to take effect for me and if your testosterone was very low, mine was almost undetectable, it could take longer. I would also recommend asking for a referral to a menopause clinic,

I find vagifem helps, it’s a progesterone pessary. It has improved the intensity for me! Still not like it was before menopause but an improvement.

It's oestrogen.

I’m the same ! I struggle to get there, but if I do it’s an uncomfortable feeling really, rather than the nice one it used to be.

Autumflower · 04/11/2022 07:19

Oh god I didn’t realise menopause effected this as well
its bad enough with antidepressants,no orgasm at all all on those

WTF! Is this a thing! I'm 49 and not experienced this yet. Christ alive, do the joys of menopause never end?

I have been told by someone who is qualified to comment that if you are taking testosterone as part of your perimenopause management, you need to make sure you're taking an optimum dose of oestrogen and that you've been 'oestrogenised' for a good few months before taking testosterone, otherwise, as she put it, you're traumatising a sensitive part of your anatomy that may have atrophied and it can't handle it. Smile

I have a shitty libido, always have really, but orgasms definitely more muted. That's been for years though, not sure it was tied to onset of peri symptoms.

inininsomnia · 04/11/2022 11:28

I had a brief period of intense, long-lasting orgasms early in my perimenopause symptoms. Now, alas, even with HRT (inc testosterone) they are quite muted. If I could go back to that period, I might not leave the house :)

Not all women experience this but it is common. My advice to anyone in their 40s is to be aware of possible peri menopause symptoms, as I suffered unnecessarily for years and didn’t realise the many symptoms I was having were menopause related.

Usually problems with orgasm whilst taking antidepressants(usually SSRI’s like Prozac etc) wear off after a while. If this doesn’t get better you should speak to your doctor.

BrassicaBabe do you think it may be worth trying testosterone again? I'm doing my best to be patient with HRT (started March this year at 61; 5 years post meno) and been learning through others that low and slow is best. We are advised to take a garden pea sized amount of sachet testosterone, but I'm applying a petit pois amount. From your name I'm thinking you enjoy and possibly grow your own veg?! I'm chomping at the bit to add more and quickly, but I've learnt my lesson. I've not suffered any anxiety with the Testosterone (and I am prone and take ADs for it) and I'm waiting patiently in hope. It is said that patience is a virtue. Let's flipping hope it reaps rewards! x

Have you had blood tests to look at your oestrogen and testosterone levels ? Are you experiencing any other menopause symptoms still ? It sounds like your HRT needs adjusting. Sometimes it’s not absorbed properly

Hmm. I don't think so. I had a blood test and my testosterone levels were actually high so I knocked the crème one the head 🤷‍♀️
