Peri menopause and starting HRT

Finally after months of hell, I have been prescribed HRT, I'm excited to get started and looking forward to hopefully feeling myself again.
I've been told to start popping my pill on the first day of my next period, which ironically, despite normally being fairly regular hasn't arrived 🥴 , I'm now tempted to just start, does anyone know if this would be ok? For reference my HRT is Elleste Duet. Thanks in advance

I just started the same today but I've not had a period for over 3 months so just started. Did you decide what to do?

TheLoupGarou · 27/10/2022 18:48

Hello! I'm 12 days in, am on evorel 50 patches and also utrogestan 200mg for 12 days - started mine mid cycle so today is my last day of progesterone. Early days of course but honestly, I already feel better - sleeping well, awful sweats have stopped and I feel way more like myself. Good luck!

carlajay · 01/11/2022 20:41

Hello, I didn't get notifications that anyone had commented on my thread, apologies......so a couple of days after I posted my wayward period arrived and I started taking my pills.
6 days in now, mentally feel so much better (but think that's mostly relief that better days are hopefully coming) so far, bizarrely, the main noticeable physical change is that certain urges are coming back 🤣 after months of not being bothered if I never had sex again, I am starting to think about nothing but 'sexy time' (sorry if thats TMI) - Not sure if hubby is delighted or terrified 😀
I'm hoping for some more practical developments soon - like being able to remember the kids names, or what I went into a room for.
Would love to hear how you guys are doing as we are all similar timings wise 🙂

I have been on ellest duet for nearly a year now. The white tablets make me feel so much better. The green ones don't. I always dread taking the last white pill and moving o to the green as all the original symptoms come back after a few days

Pootle40 · 01/11/2022 21:31

I'm also on Ellest duet....one week in. Sleeping so much better and hot flushes almost gone. Will let you know when I'm on the green tablets! Otherwise no side effects 😃

Pootle40 · 15/11/2022 06:19

So I also have seen things slide since taking the green tablets. My sleep is really bad the last few days waking every hour or so. Can't wait to be back on the white pills.......

carlajay · 15/11/2022 17:51

Hey, day 4 of green for me and although I don't feel as awful as I did before starting HRT, I definitely don't feel as good on the Green as I did on the white, energy has took a dive and feel quite nauseous, also have really bad heartburn 😟 can't wait to get back on my magic white pills xx

@carlajay if you dont mind me asking how old are you? Did they blood test? My hormones are slightly out and still worn prescribe HRT only SSRI..

Summerhillsquare · 15/11/2022 21:10

@mumdone have a look at the NICE guidance. If you are 45 or over GPs should prescribe against symptoms listed.

Summerhillsquare · 15/11/2022 21:10

Oh and anti depressants are not recommended for the menopause!

justcallmebozo · 15/11/2022 21:35

@carlajay - "Not sure if hubby is delighted or terrified" - mine was happily exhausted for a while there, and definitely had a look of relief on his face when he got a day off! Make the most of it, you don't know how long it'll last for, although 3 years in and i'm still acting like a teenage boy.

I'm 43, had minimal symptoms since 40, but the past 8/9 months had been horrific, went through 2 rounds of blood tests (hormone levels didn't show anything) but after ruling out anything nasty, GP concluded my symptoms were Peri menopause and asked if I wanted to try HRT - think I was lucky my GP (male) was so understanding, I did log my symptoms for a couple of months on Balance App, which think helped my case xxx

Hi! I’m a newbie but would really appreciate some advice. I started on the Evorel Sequi patches this week, literally on the 2nd patch, and feel horrendous!!
I’ve had a constant headache since starting, my insomnia has returned with a vengeance (hence I’m typing this at 3.42am!) and my boobs are already so sore and swollen!!
Is this normal?! My gut feeling is to tear the patch off and try something different. Help!!!

mumdone · 16/11/2022 04:57

@Summerhillsquare i know but as I’m anxious as well as other peri symptoms they have said they will treat the anxiety. I’m having another blood test and then will push for HRT.
@carlajay im 42 hence the resistance to prescribe me HRT.
thanks
hope you feel better soon!

Hi @BexPeds so I am on sequential tablet hrt but the first 24/48 hours I felt very nauseous and then it completely settled down so fingers crossed you have the same. I didn't have any other significant side effects so far.....

My gp prescribed the patches which I tried for two months and I saw no change in my symptoms. They just didn’t work for me.
After chatting with the gp I’m now on the gel and the progesterone caps. This changed everything! Within the first two weeks I felt a massive change in nearly all my symptoms. I would give the patches a week or two at least but if you can journal anything and report back to the gp about your concerns and if you’re still not happy then ask to try something different.

BexPeds · 16/11/2022 07:48

Glad to know I’m not alone. I will do this as I don’t feel any different in any of my symptoms and now have this on top. Thank you!

Cleopatra67 · 16/11/2022 07:50

Ask for transdermal oestrogen and utrogestan. It’s the safest HRT option - don’t know why GOs insist on prescribing the pills. Cost probably but NICE recommends the above combination.
