Managers understanding

So as a menopausal women I have gone through horrendous hot flushes as a lot of us do. I’ve had to stand outside the office to cool down even during winter. Lack of sleep and brain fog too although I’ve managed ok at work.
This week has been menopause awareness week and my place of work had a drop in session which I was able to attend with a couple of other colleagues in the same situation.
I reported back to my manager about the session as I thought she’d find it useful to know a couple of things and her reply? ‘Women have been going through menopause for millions of years, we just have to get on with it and not write stupid policies about how to help our staff’
I was gobsmacked to be honest - she’s only a couple of years younger than me and will be going through it herself soon enough. I hope her manager is more sympathetic and understanding.
Hiw has everyone found their managers / place of work?

Wow, in my workplace the manager would be bollocked for saying that, we've so many new policies aimed at supporting women - who are essential to the organisation.

Would you be able to mention this to the next manager up to say you feel unsupported?

What a twat!

No I don’t think I could - they’re really good friends!!

I do have the support of other colleagues though. It’s such a shame but not an uncommon attitude - an older lady said pretty much the same thing to me!

Children used to get sent up chimneys and women used to have to give up work when they got married and there never used to be a minimum wage. etc etc etc. And now we have laws and policies to protect people.
Your manager is a berk.

The menopause is a bit like periods and pregnancy. Some women sail through without too many problems and others have a horrendous time.

There are always a minority of people who if they haven’t personally experienced something themselves, think it can’t be that bad. I guess it’s similar when someone has never had mental health problems and think it’s just a matter of mind over matter, and you’ll feel better in no time.

My experience of menopause has been horrible. Before it happened I couldn’t really understand just how bad hot flushes could be, but that didn’t stop me giving sympathy to others.

I work nights, no managers at work. I'm so glad that I can pop outside when I get a hot flush.

Well life expectancy up until last century was probably around mid 40s if you were lucky. No women haven’t been going t menopause for millions of years. Also few women worked in past generations. She sounds dreadful I’d be going to HR.
