HRT patches falling off

Needesppressonow · 21/10/2022 07:10

Hi, I’ve just started the HRT patches, where you change it twice a week. All seemed good yest morning with one day to go before changing a patch, but it came off without my even noticing! I put a replacement on last night and it looks even less secure than the last one, would it be ok to stick a large plaster over the patch to secure it?
thanks

I feel your pain. My DSis recommended hypafix tape as her and her DH use it to secure coverings on new tattoos and that stuff is like superglue.

(Weirdly, the first batch of patches I had all peeled off within hours but subsequent ones have been better to the point that I don’t have to look like a mummy to get my hormones into my bloodstream. )

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 21/10/2022 07:16

And 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 for you . That’s how I felt when I finally got my prescription. I was telling all the lovely older women in the queue at Boots and I swear everyone did a middle aged suburban woman type of high fives ( even if it was only through shared looks ) 😂😂😂😂

Thank you so much, for the advice and super speedy reply. Will try that. Will get myself mummified 😉

Where are you sticking them? After a bit of trial and error I found just below my knicker waistband was the best spot.

And apply after showering, make sure completely dry, no moisturizer in that spot. Then hold in place for 20 secs.

I haven't had a patch come away in 2 years doing it this way.

If not, I'm sure bandaid or medical tape would be ok.

Morasssassafras · 21/10/2022 07:19

Where are you putting them? I found if I put them on the side of my thigh/hip they wouldn't last. I now put them on my bum, under where my knickers are and they do not budge.

Needesppressonow · 21/10/2022 07:26

i Put the first one on a part of my thigh that doesn’t move, the front top part. I stupidly put the next one adjacent but towards my inner thigh which is flappy and moves a lot! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Try putting them on in the evening, if you shower in the morning.
I've been doing that and they've all stayed on this time.
Either that's helped or they've changed the glue since the first time I tried!

Needesppressonow · 21/10/2022 07:35

I put both on in the evening after a shower and thoroughly drying my skin. So grateful for finally getting them though!

I use Evorel patches which are 99% fine and stick no problem. When there was a shortage I was switched to Estraderm which are supposed to be the same but they didn’t stick to me no matter where I put them.

Needesppressonow · 21/10/2022 07:46

I’m on Evorel too 😬

When you put it on, hold your hand over it to ensure the adhesive sticks, it needs a bit of body heat I find.

Peterbear · 21/10/2022 07:59

I didn't get on with patches so was switched to oral hrt (I.e a tablet )by the one gp who seemed to know her stuff. Good luck.x

Luckycatt · 21/10/2022 08:07

I was told not to use tape/adhesive film to cover the patches at it could affect absorption. Instead I was told to use the 'window' covers, where the adhesive is only around the edges so no adhesive is on the patch. They were so expensive and really big so it looked obtrusive.

The patches got easier, though, or I got better at apply them, so I don't wear the film anymore. I'm on evorel too.

I found specific spots on my body to be better than others. Guess that's the way your body moves. I also clean with surgical spirits first, warm the patches in my hand before applying, then once it's on, press with my hand for a few seconds. Like a pp, I heard that the adhesive sticks better when warmed to body temp.

I had the same problem when I was putting them on after a shower. I now change before the shower as the skin is cooler and dryer. It works for me. Good luck

PJ04JCW · 21/10/2022 08:11

I have evorel.
Echo PP about not putting them on before or after shower, warm them first and put them on bum cheeks under knickers. I'm on month 4 and so much better.

Mxflamingnoravera · 21/10/2022 08:12

I had patches that wouldn't stay on. I swim regularly and they would last two days max. I've switched to gel which I find much easier to manage all round. No patches to worry about, I just have to remember to apply the gel.

Put them on at lunchtime then! Not after a shower, is the point.

Needesppressonow · 23/10/2022 20:14

Thanks all, well the patch I put on on Thursday night is clinging on for dear life with the medical strip! Tomorrow is changeover day. So I will take your great advice when putting on my next patch. My next question is, how long does it take to kick in? The only change I’ve noticed thus far, in 5 nights is sore boobs! I’m still waking up in a panic at 2:30am, still have v low libido and I’m still an emotional moody bitch!

picklemewalnuts · 23/10/2022 21:14

If you think in terms of a 28 day cycle, you'd perhaps expect a bit longer than a week to get any real impact. I know they like you to take 3 months between increases, so I guess that's the window you are looking at for fullest impact of the dose you are on.

Needesppressonow · 01/11/2022 05:52

Thanks for the advice all, I’ve taken it and since then the patches have been staying on. On my 5th now which is evorel conti (1st 4 were evorel 50) and I’ve woken up with a banging headache. Ooh I’ve put on weight too 😩 since starting hrt but it was already on the incline anyway thanks to the lack of mojo! Hoping it comes back soon! Please share your journeys if you have the time
