Hello! This seems to be a fairly common symptom, but I was reading up on it again as they've been bad and what's concerning me about mine is how long they last. Today's came on in bed this morning at 5am when I turned over, but it's still going now at 3pm. It totally wipes me out. Anyone else?

Ask your GP for an ECG, just in case there's nothing else going on.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/10/2022 15:36

You need to get that checked out asap OP, might not be menopause at all.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 18/10/2022 15:41

Call your gp, although they will likely send you to a&e anyway

Talk to your GP about this, I've had the same for a couple of years but mine have got worse and I've been diagnosed with IST and put on medication and it's changed so so much. Wish I had dealt with it before.

I was in atrial fibrillation last time this happened. Needed to be admitted and anticoagulated. Referred to cardiology and now medicated. Wasn't the menopause at all.

There is an issue with blaming everything on the menopause once you reach 50.
It never occured to me that my palpitations were menopause related nor did the GP or cardiologist suggest that. It turned out to be SVT.
You should check your pulse and call the GP.

I agree, I thought mine were due to menopause and it was high BP instead, completely gone now it's controlled. I would go to A and E immediately OP.

If they have been going on for 10 hours you should definitely get checked out ASAP.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/10/2022 08:26

How are you today OP?

Lostmymindat44 · 20/10/2022 08:24

Thank you for asking - I'm allliivve!

I agree with above, there is a bit of a cover all with menopause.

I've had these on and off for years, but it's becoming more frequent, which is why it was being hung on the back of menopause. But as I said above, it occurred to me that each episode lasts so long that it's quite what people are talking about when they talk about heart palpitations.

When you look up heart palpitations, it's also usually seen as quite common and nothing to worry about.

SVT, I'd never heard of it despite looking into heath palpitations a fair amount. It's a comfort to know it can be controlled. I'm going to keep a diary and make an appointment with the GP in the meantime. I have had an ECG before when I spoke to them about the palpitations years ago. I think I need to wear it for a week for them to get an example of it.

Your GP can refer you for a 24 hour monitor initially. If anything shows up you would be referred to a cardiologist.
I had numerous monitors then a stress test, then an EP study.
My SVT is well controlled with drugs.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/10/2022 23:57

You need to see your GP as a matter of urgency, so ring tomorrow. It doesn't matter what tests have shown previously, this might be something completely different.
