Testosterone cream - how will high levels make me *feel*?

Hi

I've been on oestrogen patches and progesterone tablets for 2 years now.

In July my patch dose was doubled because my symptoms had got noticeably worse. At the same time I asked and was prescribed testosterone cream.

I've just had testosterone blood test results. And they are about double the upper limit of where they should be.

I'll share this info with my (lovely and private hrt) doc tomorrow. I'm guessing the advice wi be to knock the testosterone cream on the head.

But can anyone tell me what high levels of testosterone might make me FEEL? My voice hasn't deepened, not excessive hair etc. But I'm "not quite settled". I can't find anything on Google about how high testosterone might make me feel. Calm, anxious, angry? Any ideas?

Of course I'll speak to doc tomorrow. But can anyone plug the gap?! Thanks!

Are you looking at FAI? Free testosterone?

I think voice deepening is a late irreversible thing so you definitely want to reduce levels before that. Male pattern baldness is another late sign.

I believe high levels of testosterone make people feel jittery, some have anger issues and of course excess libido.

Just stop or reduce it. Obviously you'll speak to your doctor but double the upper limit should be massively concerning for you. Don't wait until you sound like Barry White!

I’m assuming it’s total testosterone and not free testosterone, which should be between 2-5%. It’s unlikely your free T is double that. Really unlikely. But typical for total to be above.

I have been using Androfeme 1%. My results were 3.94 nmol /L. The optimal range is 0.29 - 1.67. (Well, as presented to me)

Thankfully my hair and my voice are fine.

Jittery would describe me quite often! No fricking sign of libido. Excess or otherwise!!

Yes but is that total testosterone or your FAI, free androgen index, which means your freely available testosterone. Total can be quite high, but the FAI is given as a percentage, it should be between 2-5%.

it seems like you are just reading the total testosterone. That’s not the important reading. On Androfemme my total is high but my FAI is only 1.9% even taking it.

Ah, I booked the wrong test!! If was the total testosterone. NOT the free testosterone

@WahineToa apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I'm trying to get my head around testosterone levels. I'm getting a blood test tomorrow, having been on Testim for about 9 months. Last test was after approx 3 months and had gone from 0.8 to 1.8, which I was told was too high. I've reduced dosage considerably over the last six months since then (one tube per 20ish days rather than per 10 days).

When my testosterone was "too high" at 1.8, I felt great energy-wise and mentally. My ability to O had returned, but TBH still didn't want to actually have sex. As I've reduced the dosage, energy levels have dropped and ability to O has got weaker again.

I'm inclined to up the dosage again, and I'm curious about the usefulness of the measurement they're using. Is it possible that it was "too high" according to their test, but for the purposes of improving my libido (and energy etc) I could/should go higher (until I get my sex drive back properly!)?
