Excessive sweating

Humanwoman · 13/10/2022 09:15

Whenever I am walking anywhere which I do a lot despite only wearing short sleeves I am finding myself to be absolutely soaked. My usual deodorant is next to useless, although I'm not stinking I am uncomfortable.
Is anyone else dealing with this and if so what do you use

Yes I have excessive sweating. At its worst it was from my forehead down to the back of my knees, often 20 times a day.

Its like my body can no longer adjust to outside temperature, so if I’m shopping in cool weather, going from outside to inside a shop sets it off, similarly now I take off an outer layer when getting in the car.I wear layers and only buy short or sleeveless things with a cardigan on top.

I have switched to a 3tog single quilt. I take a cold flannel and cold packs to bed, I find if I can stay cool it’s easier to fall asleep.

Hrt helped a lot with the hot flushes, but made my migraines worse, so had to stop it.

you may find the walking sweats better as the weather cools so you can remove a cardigan/coat as you warm up.

Its not til you get them, you realise how awful they are.

HundredMilesAnHour · 16/10/2022 11:34

I'm the same. And any exertion means the sweat is literally running off me. A private doctor prescribed me propantheline bromide to help - it reduces the amount you sweat (but doesn't stop it). Now trying to see if I can convince my NHS GP to prescribe it for me.

Sheepwalker · 16/10/2022 15:00

Oh my goodness, I'm the same. I never used to sweat and suddenly once I hit 38 I was soaked walking anywhere. Winter hiking at -5 in just a t-shirt and being drenched....
Layers. Merino T-shirts. I always take a spare change of clothes with me. I've perfected the switching of T-shirts in public but haven't managed to figure out the bra yet.

Lulu1919 · 16/10/2022 15:23

I have this issue ..it's awful ,I have to be careful what colours I wear
My bra gets soaked ...when I take it off later you can see the stains
It's so hard at work ..i can feel sweat running down my back...

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 16/10/2022 15:28

Yes, same problem here. Like a previous comment, I think for me it's that my body can't manage an adjustment in temperature, so going from outside to inside triggers a rush of heat.
I take a flannel and change of clothes to work, then when I arrive dripping in sweat I wash myself down and change into my work outfit.

Mary46 · 16/10/2022 17:18

Hi op my doc says the hrt patch is good for sweats. Think its helped me a bit. Horrible feeling as u say

iamyourequal · 16/10/2022 20:15

I have this issue too. I can go out for a walk and come back needing to change my tee shirt as my back is soaking. That’s me on HRT! The problem is worse in the morning I find.

Humanwoman · 16/10/2022 23:31

I just feel gross with it. This being so bad last week did push me into finally speaking to the dr. I had bloods taken Friday, not sure if it will show anything as the boots fsh pee test I did wednesday came back negative, but we shall see.
The last 3 days I have worn dresses rather than trousers/Jean's and a t shirt and I don't know if it's an increase airflow or what but it hasnt been so bad.
So I am going to continue with the dresses and stock up on the mitchum.

I'm the same OP. It's awful. Anything remotely physically demanding and I'm dripping. Makes me feel disgusting 😪

Feetache · 22/10/2022 23:32

I feel like my thermostat is broken

cleowasmycat · 22/10/2022 23:39

HRT I can't stress this enough.

ElephantLover · 22/10/2022 23:46

HRT helped stop the sweats for me. But sometimes on very exhausting days I still have this problem.

SO224350 · 22/10/2022 23:57

I wake up sticking to the sheets. I'm a community carer and by lunchtime, after being in very warm flats and humid bathrooms my hair is like a birds nest! I've even dripped on people whilst washing them Blush

Humanwoman · 23/10/2022 09:53

My fsh levels aren't showing anything but the dr I spoke to said that doesnt mean you aren't just that it's not showing yet. I've been offered HRT but I am unsure on whether to go for it or try something natural to start evening primrose or something.

What makes you hesitate? Unless you are under 45 you don't need blood tests and HRT should be prescribed based on symptoms only.

Humanwoman · 23/10/2022 16:13

I'm not 40 for a few more months, I do need to look into it a bit more it just seems like a big deal

Has your thyroid been checked?

Humanwoman · 23/10/2022 16:30

Yeah thyroid is fine they tested that at the same time

I'm on Propantheline bromide via NHS. Been on it 20 years. It does NOT stop sweating completely though! So don't expect it to. Also it's effectiveness rapidly drops after a couple of months

That's good to hear that you get it on the NHS. Gives me hope! I have it on private prescription but can't afford to shell out £70 every month!! So I'm having to literally sweat to save money while trying to get a NHS GP appt. I thought maybe I can get away without it (especially now it's colder) but as soon as I exert myself, I'm back to looking like someone's poured a bucket of water over my head.

I possibly have an underactive thyroid but I had a parathyroidectomy recently so my endo wants me to wait for that to settle before we do more bloods and look at my thyroid.

Omg I say exactly the same here! I was offered ETS surgery by the NHS but I read how horrendous the potential side effects are and for that matter, the risks of the operation itself (as they have to collapse your lungs) so I turned it down. In fact the op is banned in multiple countries due to the neurological risks

I'm exactly the same as you and I tried Oil of Evening Primrose supplements and nada 👎

MightyOaks · 23/10/2022 20:21

@HundredMilesAnHour I have boxes & boxes of Propantheline! I might get into trouble for saying this but I'd be happy to send you some as you're already prescribed it. It's the exact same thing! I get free prescriptions

pinkpeoniesmakemesmile · 23/10/2022 20:23

I am the same. My head sweats ridiculous along with the rest of me, especially when I change environments (inside/outside). I am 35 and my mum keeps asking if I'm peri menopausal. I'm on Fluoxetine and wondered if it could be side effect, but I'm thinking it could be my hormones after ready all your comments.

I will happily cover your postage costs and more! But I don't want to put you in an awkward position @MightyOaks. Unfortunately I live in Tower Hamlets so one of the poorest areas in the UK so getting a GP appt is a nightmare and then getting a GP to actually prescribe anything is even worse.
