At what point do you move from cyclical to conti HRT?

If you start HRT in peri and therefore take it sequentially, do you at some point move to conti? If so, when?? And if you’re on cyclical HRT how do you know if/when you’re officially in menopause?

I started HRT 3 months ago as in peri and hadn’t had a period for 7 months. I hate having bleeds again, especially as they’re not regular and come part way thorough, and this month before, taking utrogestan. But presumably I will go on having bleeds indefinitely on the cyclical pattern of taking HRT? Or does the GP move you onto taking it continuously as some point?

What many women don't realise is that neither one type or the other is mandatory.

Cyclical is there to stop erratic bleeds that can happen if conti is given too soon (as the progesterone in conti isn't enough to control bleeding in peri.)

But if someone is happy on sequi/cyclical they can stay on that. (I have.)

The reason for changing to conit is one of preference. Some drs will tell you it's to reduce the slight risk of endometrial hyperplasia (slightly higher than with conti) but many don't seem aware that conti also has a higher risk of breast cancer as the breasts never get a break from both hormones.

So it's your call really as to what suits you and works. You can't find out of if your are post meno when on HRT so it means experimenting with both types.

I'm in peri and use evorel conti (to balance my moods) and I still bleed every month which is annoying. Been taking it for about 9 months now.

I’m wondering the same although I use oestrogel and utrogestan

Im 51, and been on HRT for just over a year. I was having fairly regular periods before I started and I bleed midway through the utrogestan weeks.
