Hypothyroidism and menopause

Hi I’m hypothyroid and peri menopausal and on HRT, evorel, Utrogestan & Androfemme. I take NDT for my thyroid.

anyone else also have thyroid problems? Do you find it makes an impact on menopause?

I’ve had to reduce my NDT dosage by about 20% as after years of stability I found my FREE T3 & T4 both went over the range once I started HRT. I read it was Utrogestan that does that. I also think I’m still quite fatigued considering a lot of other menopausal symptoms have gone. I’ve been reading others stories and it seems it’s not till we are post meno this stabilises. I get anxiety too since hypothyroid and although better these days it’s a little up and down. My doctor says that unfortunately I can’t expect to get rid of the fatigue and other thyroid/meno symptoms because the thyroid issue complicates things, in particular the thyroid meds affect available testosterone. She’s a good specialist and very positive in general but I think just making me aware of what I can expect. I’ve had two doctors tell me that. Anyone else?

Watching with interest. I have hypothyroidism too, am on HRT -Utrogestan 100, Vaginal Oestrogen & Everol 100. I too reduced my dose of Levothyroxine. I had been trying to wean off it anyway, (as suggested by endo), so no sure how much of an impact HRT has had. I have been going down 25ucg every 3 months with bloods every 3 months. Currently on 75ucg.

I found hot flushes completely gone, but still having issues with brain fog, anxiety and fatigue. Another thread, said you emotionally feel like you are in your 20's, and I so relate. I take Vit D too at this time of year. I have just been told brain fog is due to the declining Oestrogen even though I am on the highest dose. So not much she can do. Symptoms are improved since starting the HRT. I just still feel emotional.

hi! Brain fog can be low testosterone. Mine really improved when I added that in. In fact in general, testosterone improved my symptoms more it seemed. Especially energy. Thank god I can exercise now. Do you test your hormones very regularly?

Watching with interest because I have hypothyroidism too, and though I have talked about perimenopause with my GP, she never mentioned that hypothyroidism might be a complicating factor. Thank you for the heads-up!

Hello, another one here going through perk menepause. I’m sure I read somewhere that you need to increase your levothyroxine dose as oestrogen interferes with the absorption of it. I don’t want to reduce my dose 😫

Normally HRT particularly actually progesterone, increase your thyroxine and you need to decrease your thyroid medication. You only do this if you need to, you’ll know by symptoms and testing which you should do once you’ve started HRT.
