Freaking out about irregular bleeding

I am 47.

My cycles used to be long but have been 25-27 days for a few years now with some flooding on days 2 and 3.

Much better in terms of heaviness for about 9 months now, which is great.

This cycle was even lighter and I bled for fewer days, but then I went on to spot every day since and now I seem to be getting another period on day 21/22.

What is going on??? Is it normal to get periods so close together in peri?

Mine started being like this at age 42. Some spotting a few days before periods, periods coming every 21 days or so. I'm now 47 and they're very unpredictable. Sometimes a very regular 28 days, sometimes 21 days. Usually some flooding and big clots on day 2 or 3. Always some spotting beforehand. Sounds normal to me. The joy of perimenopause!

If you're spotting every single day between periods that would be worth mentioning to a doctor.

KangarooKenny · 30/09/2022 14:48

Yep, I had this. I had a coil due to heaviness and increasingly frequent periods. Also had some spotting.

ItsRainingPens · 30/09/2022 14:50

Same age as you, same kind of experience. My last period finished a week ago, but I've had spotting every day

bellav · 30/09/2022 14:57

I don't normally spot every day. This is the first time. I usually spot for 5-6 days before a period and a few days after, plus 1-2 days around ovulation. This time it was every day, although sometimes such a tiny amount that I could have easily not noticed had I not been so anxious and looking for it.

I would check with a dr definitely. Spotting was symptom for me but not all cycle.

JlL2013 · 30/09/2022 19:13

100% check with a doctor. Are your smears up to date?

bellav · 30/09/2022 19:23

Smears up to date yes.
And the spotting was such a tiny amount that I could easily have missed it.
Plus I have had this before, in 2020, and it was nothing so clearly hormonal.

(Sorry, should have mentioned the 2020 thing upthread but I had forgotten! Only found out when going back through my notes)

It is apparently normal but I'd still
Check in with Gp re spotting

HundredYearsOfSolitude · 01/10/2022 06:20

It probably is just perimenopause but I would check with GP just to be on the safe side.
