Awaiting further confirmation but experiencing all the symptoms, haven't had a period for months.

Please, can anyone tell me if there is something I can do about the night sweats? I'm waking up cold and damp multiple times a night and I am so very tired. I don't normally wear PJs but I'm having to wear them and change mid way through so that the duvet doesn't get too damp too.

You could try Black Cohosh which manages many of the symptoms of menopause and you can buy in the chemist. Hopefully if early menopause is confirmed you will be able to have a discussion about HRT? Sorry you're going through this.

what is your general health like? Diet and fitness?

BillyBobBear · 18/09/2022 22:46

Thankyou, I will look into Black Cohosh, that website is also great.

My general health is OK however I had covid twice in the last 12 months and I still can get quite breathless. I am also extremely tired and often can't get through the day without needing to sleep for at least half an hour.

I would speak to your GP. I am not one of those who thinks everyone should be on HRT but you are quite young so it may be worth discussing in terms of bone health as it is known to protect against osteoporosis which may be an increased risk with early menopause

Mine started like this at 36 due to autoimmune issues. It’s very common to go into early menopause with Addison’s disease (which is extremely rare but you should still be checked for it) and pituitary issues. You need to ask for your cortisol levels to be checked via a 9am blood test and for your prolactin levels to be checked. If you have high prolactin this is easily treated with medication. Ideally I think you need a referral to an endocrinologist- 31 is extremely early for menopause. However, if you are genuinely entering it you should be started on HRT for your bone and heart health - and obviously the night sweats should stop (that’s one of the first symptoms I had too).

You haven’t had a baby recently have you? Just a thought as sometimes that can also swing your oestrogen levels right down whilst they re adjust.

Hi, thanks for this, I have an appt with the doctor in a couple of weeks to follow up from the last appt so I will ask about the blood tests then.

Youngest DC is 6 so not recent. We do have family history of early menopause so I wasn't surprised. Night sweats are the bloody worst though!! Thanks all x

I think that you absolutely need hrt due to your young age. Maybe to discuss it with an expert.

FallingLeaves111 · 23/10/2022 18:47

I had similar OP. Hypothyroid and a family history of early menopause, also of osteoporosis. I went on HRT in my late 30s. I had high Prolactin too, so was referred to an endo who started the hrt.
