Anyone gone from Evorel 75 to 100?

I'm 46 and on Mirena plus patches. I started with the 50 patches at first. They were good for a few months then symptoms started to reappear. GP moved me to 75 which has been great for about 6 months.

Just in the last few weeks I've noticed symptoms reappearing. Mainly mood and sleep symptoms. I've been so angry the whole time. Sleeping badly, anxious, panicky, quick tempered. I had some left over 50 patches so I stuck 2 on to see if I feel better on 100 and I do. I slept better, I feel more chilled.

100 sounds like a lot though. I get the impression from threads on here that most women are on lower doses. Presumably higher dose = higher risk of cancer etc? Should I ask my GP for Evorel 100 or is that too risky?

I went from 50 to 100.
I’d initially kept my old patch on when putting a new one on, then taking the oldest one off to put the new, new one on iyswim. Just to see how I felt with a bigger dose.
When I finally spoke to the nurse she instantly sent a prescription through for 100. Things are so much better and my mood & anxiety are all very much improved.

Oh that's good to hear @StikeandRobin . I'm pleased to hear it's going well for you.

I've just asked my GP for gel instead of patches because I figured it would be easier to increase/decrease the dose until I get it right.

I’m on Evorel 75 but in the last month have noticed my symptoms coming back ( waking up between 5-6am nearly every day 😩) I wasn’t sure what dosage other people were on so after reading your post, I’ll be asking for an increase too.

KassandraOfSparta · 18/09/2022 16:26

I'm in the same boat - but at a lower dose. I started off on 25 mcg Evorel patches only, I have had a hysterectomy so no progesterone. Upped them to 50 after 6 months but feeling some of the symptoms coming back so may ask for an increase to 75.

From what I can gather younger women tend to need higher doses to stay symptom free. I've read of women on 125 or 150 patches. Davina is on 100 and one pump of gel plus testosterone (and utrogestan!)

As a massive outlier I read in a forum of women even being on 200 but under specialist care. More often much younger and had total hysterectomy.

I'm 45 and currently going up to 100. 75 wasn't cutting it at all. I'm not even sure if 100 (based on previous oestrogen tests and what the Gp wants to aim for) will but will give it a really good 3-4 months. And may ask for testosterone rather than more oestrogen. Undecided and will wait and see.

Yes, I think I read something like that @WarriorN . I don't feel very young right now but I guess it makes sense in terms of being peri rather than post menopausal. I read something by a specialist suggesting that higher doses of estrogen were needed for women who were affected by hormone related depression (PMS, PMD etc). That's definitely me. It's the mood related stuff that gets me.

Having said that, I had 100 (2 x Evorel 50) on last week but I'm now back on Evorel 75 and I feel fine. I thought I might experience a dip in mood or something but I'm OK. So maybe I should stick with the 75?

I'm finding that in peri Even on 75 and now 100 I can experience mood fluctuations and I believe you're own hormones can cause this.

I was trying to find it for someone else and can't I'm afraid, but I saw an nhs guidance on dosing, and, regarding mood, it stated to aim for 400-600 levels of oestrogen. which is what my Gp said to simply generally aim for. You could request a blood test if you would find it helpful; most rely on symptoms. I had blood tests when trying to decide if to go to 100 as I was worried some of the symptoms were being on too much, however bloods were only 260 ish. So I'm not even sure yet if 100 will be enough for me.

WarriorN · 19/09/2022 07:44

I'm calmer on 100 but it's only been a week.

I think you have to assess over a longer time frame, which is why they say 3 months or more.

WarriorN · 19/09/2022 07:51

Some women take the mini pill aswell I understand to even out mood fluctuations, or take antidepressants.

I've considered the mini pill but I'm not taking ads till I know I've maximised oestrogen and even tried testosterone. My libido really crashed earlier this year, it was disconcerting how quickly it went. I'm more comfortable down there now after using cream as well as more patches but still not much libido. I'm also constantly exhausted and haven't noticed any difference to energy on 100 which I did when first started hrt. So I don't feel ADs are for me.

WhereAreWeNow · 19/09/2022 08:55

@WarriorN I haven't had any blood tests. Actually I might have had blood tests when I first went on HRT last year but I never found out what the results were so I have no idea what my estrogen levels are. Did you get your blood test done on NHS?

OP posts:

Apparently they're not much use before you start hrt, but can help decide if you'd benefit going up after you've been on it a while and still not feeling great.

Those tests wouldn't tell you where you're at now though.

First time she tested to check whether it was thyroid or oestrogen that might be an issue (I'm on thyroxine), which showed borderline low oestrogen. I was having occasional hot flushes and insomnia again, brain fog and joint issues though despite a 50 patch. Gp did both second time too after being on 75 for 3 months due to various symptoms and I was worried I was actually on too much. Which wasn't the case.

However most people base it on symptoms. it gets tricky if you're on a v high patch and still experiencing symptoms though, which is where blood tests would help work out if you're either not absorbing that method or just not on what they class as "enough." I don't know how many gps prescribe higher than 100 though.

I started evorel conti 5 months ago after being on evorel sequi for 18 months. I am feeling much better since I started using it. I have dreadful headaches and these have almost stopped. I am also sleeping better. I have had issues with bleeding though, pretty well constant, finll y stopped now, for now at least, but apparently this can occur whilst your body is getting used to it -healthexpress.co.uk/evorel-conti
