Burning feeling in boobs

BooseysMom · 13/09/2022 00:59

Hi, I started Oestrogel/Utrogesten recently and my boobs have become like two lumps of pain.i can tolerate this but yesterday I had a very sudden sharp burning in one boob when I bent over to DS I've never had anything like it. It was like a red hot poker had been stuck inside it. It has been since starting the 12 days of Utrogesten.
Has anyone else had this and will it go away? My DM had breast cancer at 60 so am concerned and not sure i want to continue.
Thanks x

Normal to have settling in boob pain. Risks for breast cancer are no higher than normal for first 3 years. But understandable you are worried. My boob pain went on for 6 weeks when I first started, til suddenly settling. It's come back now I've changed on to 75 patches and utrogestan. 9 weeks in and I'm just on sore sensitive nipples now.

@Premiumsettings thanks for the reassurance. I really needed it! So worried about the breast cancer risk. But I have to think DM was never on hrt and she got it so you just don't know.

Try The HRt Truth Collective on Facebook run by Jane Pangbourne. It is UK based but she has bits of info about HRT and breast cancer. Also Menopausalnotmad.co.uk. May help alleviate your worry. It's a tough one. I know my boobs freaked me out when they seemed to change consistency overnight. Particularly after starting Utrogestan. It does settle and they do calm down. Another alternative for progestogen is the mirena coil.

@Premiumsettings thanks for your post. Tbh I'm coming off it. I know I've only just started it but I've just read this article that women who get breaar pain are 48% more likely to develop breast cancer on hrt. Fuck that! My mum had it and that puts me at an increased risk.

The article is from 2009 which uses data from the out of date 2002 study that has now been debunked. It used only older women who were at increased risk already.
However I feel for your worry, it is understandable x

BooseysMom · 14/09/2022 14:39

@Premiumsettings thanks. I wrote this at 2am whilst unable to sleep so wasn't exactly thinking clearly! I wish they'd remove out of date articles like that. I still feel that hrt won't work for me. I was on it for 2 months before and not a scrap of difference did it make.. I only started again as I had bottles of gel and tablets left over and thought I'd give it one more shot. Just don't know what to do for the best

Mmm worrying at 2 am...were you googling? I do that too.

I've had 2 lots of Utrogestan now and the second lot the breast discomfort lasted not as long...3rd lot starts on Saturday so I'm hoping there will be less. You can take it vaginally which can mean less symptoms?

How much estrogel are you on?

Louise Newson has done articles on research and hrt, the latest stuff. I did a search on her website and a number of articles came up. Might be worth a look? (She's a UK GP specialising in hrt).

What symptoms did you take hrt for?

BooseysMom · 15/09/2022 17:40

@Premiumsettings yes I admit I was on a Google-fest!! Not ideal at 2am!! But last night I had a much better night's sleep without reaching for the phone!
Interesting to hear about the breast pain being not so bad on your second lot of Utrogesten. It shows I need to give it more time to work properly. My symptoms are all-over aching and insomnia and low mood. I only occasionally get hot flushes. What are your symptoms?

Exhaustion, insomnia, I fall asleep straight away, then wake between 90 min to 4 hours later. Then cannot get back to sleep for at least another 3 to 4 hours later. Then it's only a light nap. Very vivid dreams too. Also hot flashes at night. Just had that for two consecutive nights, pillow fully drenched. And this regime that was only on Utrogestan weeks, I've only restarted Utrogestan this morning, so now occurring on estrogen weeks too.

I'll let you know how my boobs are this time, round 3 on Utrogestan! I'm not the biggest fan so far. Oestrogen weeks on a 75 patch I was sleeping and no hot flushes. Start Utrogestan and for 2 hours after taking it I cannot sleep, at all. Then I sleep for 90 min 4 hours again, then awake for the day. Same on oestrogen weeks. I'm bloody exhausted. And the hot flashes too while I'm on it. I've nearly thrown it many times but I've gritted my teeth and continued. So at the end of this 2 weeks I've done my time, a full 3 months on this new regime so need to decide what needs to change. I'd ask my GPS but they are totally clueless. I did briefly try vaginally but I'm sensitive already down there and it definately upset things. So today I changed the timing, taking it as soon as I woke up, thought I had nothing to lose. And I went back to sleep?? Will see if its a fluke or not for the rest of the 2 weeks!

Sorry lot of waffle there, but part of what makes hrt hard work is not realising just how tough it can be in the settling in period.

BooseysMom · 18/09/2022 02:37

@Premiumsettings

That sounds like a whole tonne of fun for you. I'm lucky that I only get sweating a few times before the period starts which is always regular to the day. The regime has done absolutely nothing to stop the sweating or aching or insomnia hence I'm writing this at 2 30am. I also get the vivid dreams and a burning feeling down below but am sensitive too so not sure I want to try the vaginal version!

I've only been on it a few weeks but honestly what's the point? It didn't really do anything last time I was on it. It's a waste of time and money. I'm throwing the towel in now!

Good luck and keep me posted how it goes.

Sorry meant to say I've done this too! But do you mean you've taken the Utrogesten as soon as waking up? I've rubbed in the Oestrogel upon waking and no change..I take the two Utrogesten pills before bed 12 days of the cycle.
