New to HRT and NOW having hot flushes

I was prescribed evorel 25 last week, picked my prescription on Tuesday and I'm still wearing my first patch.

And ever since I have been having hot flushes - even though I hadn't had any before (I was prescribed for other symptoms).

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this?

I've had evening and night heats for 8 years, but never sweated. Started HRT recently; evening heats went within 2 nights, but I started sweating profusely on my chest. I lowered my dose (patch) and eventually the sweats stopped and my night heats also went (hurrah!). Each time I've upped the dose, the night sweats have come back. I've learnt that too much estrogen reacts the same way as too little. I've just started on testosterone and the same thing is happening. Keep persevering and your body should settle.

Thank you for replying. It was most disconcerting. I'm a teacher (in a really hot classroom) and I didn't quite know what to do with myself.

I need a new patch tonight and I'll see what happens!

Because oestrogen levels should be check if dosage of your patches are working properly. But They tend to go by symptoms now.
I was on all sorts of HRT and didn't absorb through the skin.

Looking at it another way @withaspongeandarustyspanner have you considered coincidence? As you have other symptoms, it's entirely possible that the flushes were coming anyway and have not appeared because of the patch.

When I was in early peri without HRT I'd have some symptoms when my periods went missing for a month or two, then all went back to normal. If I'd stuck a patch on then, I might have attributed the flushes to the patch, but maybe they'd have appeared anyway.

See how you go. 25mcgs is a tiny dose of estrogen.

It’s my first day with the HRT patch. I resigned from my dream job because of my foggy brain … now think it may have been a symptom of menopause.
interested to find out what happens…. Then wonder if I should try and go back…or has that boat sailed?

Well, maybe it is coincidence.

So, I had a coil fitted about 8 years ago. The reason was very suddenly, I began flooding and bleeding heavily and my periods were lasting two or three weeks and we're heavy the whole time.

I had an ultrasound to check for fibroids (I think) and they said that my ovaries were quite small for some my age. I would have just turned 40.

Anyway, I had the coil fitted and didn't really have periods after that - maybe the odd one, for half a day (which was a welcome change). There was a brief time a few years after, that I would get a bit warm, but I wouldn't say I has having a hot flush. No actual sweating.

I had the coil replaced a few years back and told that I probably would need another becuae of my age.

It was talking to my friend as well as looking at the symptoms of menopause, that prompted me to ask for a blood test. GP rang back and said that, yes, it looked like I was either going through menopause or had gone through it (without knowing when my last period was, it's hard to judge). So, because of my other symptoms and family history of osteoporosis, she prescribed me HRT.

So, up until now, I wouldn't say that hot flushes had been something that was bothering me, so I was curious if the HRT might trigger them, or something. I couldn't see anything on the sheet inside the box.

If your fsh is over 18 your are menopausal. Mine was 58 when I was 35. Hot flushes are not like sweat my symptoms are feeling really hot and fatique that's really killing me.

withaspongeandarustyspanner · 17/09/2022 07:11

I have felt warm on and off, with no regularity or inconvenience, in the last 3 or 4 years. Since starting on the patches, on a couple of occasions in the past two weeks, I have been overwhelmingly hot, and begun to actually drip with sweat as if I had just done some physical activity. Only, I was just standing there, teaching my classes.

I have no idea what my FSH was - GP said it was high, which indicated menopause. I didn't think to ask what number it was.
