Adding Estrogel to Femoston Conti?

I have had a telephone consultation with a menopause specialist when prescribing me testosterone, and her follow-up letter suggested I might want to go onto Femoston Conti (currently on Femoston 2/10) with an added pump of Estrogel if I didn’t feel I was getting enough oestrogen.

It seems a little bit casual of her to have left it up to me whether I add in the extra gel, I am always one for extra medication, so I know I will take it if I get the prescription! What sort of symptoms do you think she might have meant by ‘if I think I need more oestrogen?’.

I know the obvious answer is to ask her, but she is a nightmare to get hold of!

Can't see the problem as women using gel are advised to change the dose up or down as they might need to.

I'd can't see the logic though in your case as you are already on 2mgs estrogen, and if you are fine on that there is no reason why moving to conti should give you symptoms. if you have symptoms it would be because of daily progesterone (in which case you can go back to sequential.)

Thanks for the reply 😀 I assumed that there might be less estrogen in the conti than the 2/10

I've no idea TBH! Have you checked online? If it's a lower dose, why didn't your dr say so? Such a simple thing to explain.

The other issue is that if you are staying on HRT long term, the preference is to use transdermal not tablet form. So if you are using gel as a top up, why not use it instead, and add in micronised progesterone?

Yes it is a lower dose. Most of the conversation was about testosterone - she’s made the suggestion to change to conti by letter, so no explanation
