Everol & Utrogestan continuous

Hi , I’m on Everol 75 and 200mg of Utrogestan, my meno Dr recently increased my Utrogestan from 100 to 200 as I was bleeding every two weeks and still am . It’s really getting me down as I’ve got light period cramps and bloating
I haven’t had a period for 3 years and had a pelvic scan two months ago which was fine .
Im just wondering if anyone else has or is experiencing this as I feel like throwing the towel in . Any advice please

Are you post menopause?

Usually that's how you need to be for continuous.

You could try using it sequentially and that might just get you into a new cycle that is regular.

Other option is to reduce the dose of your patch. 75mcgs is quite high . Any reason for that?

Did you start lower, like 37mcgs or 50mcgs?

50mgs is the same roughly 3 pumps of gel (2.5mgs of estrogen.)

Sorry I now see you are definitely post meno!

My gut feeling is you are on too high a dose of patch.

Most women on patches start lower- there is a 25mcg patch- so 75 is quite unusual for post meno- it's usually younger women in peri who need the high doses.

I had bloods taken for my hormone levels & my menopause Dr informed me they were perfect on
the 75mg .
I don’t know what the levels should be I am tempted to request a lower dose , she didn’t seem too concerned about the regular 2 week bleeds and just said it could be me & she would monitor it with scans & if need be request a Hysteroscopy & mirena coil 🙈

The 'perfect' dose is one where your meno symptoms are controlled by the lowest dose suitable.

Normally, a specialist would start you on 25mcgs for a few weeks at least then move up to 50mcgs if needed.

For instance, with gel, I started on half a pump which is a tiny dose, (half of a 25mcg patch) and moved up to one and bit pumps (which is about 37mcgs.)

They don't do blood tests to check the levels anyway as even on HRT they can vary quite a bit.

Are you being treated by a consultant or a GP?

I do have a meno Dr , I’m not comfortable with the symptoms I’m experiencing at the moment but she doesn’t seem concerned as my pelvic scan was ok .
As previously mentioned thd bleeds every 2 weeks are getting me down , prior to starting HRT I hadn’t had a period for over a year and a half

So this is a private consultant? Gynaecologist? Or NHS?

I'd be asking her why she started you on a high dose of patch. That needs discussing. What are you estrogen levels on it and why are they 'perfect'?

It's normal to bleed for the first 6 months on conti but not usually as much as you are. The guidance says irregular bleeding but every 2 weeks seems quite a lot. It's not acceptable from a lifestyle point of view.

If you are paying and this is private I think you can ask a lot more questions and challenge what is going on.

Trixiebell06 · 24/08/2022 22:07

I totally agree , it’s concerning . I was just wondering if anyone else has or is having the same problem . I’m more worried that it’s going to cause me more harm than good

Fingers crossed someone can help as my doctors surgery has been rubbish..
I started everol patches and utrogestan about 2 weeks ago but I'm so confused!! I have to take the utrogestan for the last 2 weeks of my cycle... But do I still continue with the patches at the same time??

KittyMcKitty · 17/12/2022 14:49

@Fio69 does it not say on the prescription label with your name on it on the various boxes - they normally have very explicit instructions (mine do).

CelesteM · 17/12/2022 20:18

Hi @Trixiebell06 I agree with @JinglingHellsBells and 75 estrogen may be too high for you. I am on continuous hrt and take 50 Climara patch with 100mg progesterone nightly. I did have a little break though bleeding in the first few months so my doctor increased the progesterone to 200mg a night for a week. This settle down so I am now back in 50/100 and quite happy as no menopause symptoms and my hormone levels were quite good at my last blood test. Best wishes!

Fio69 · 19/12/2022 07:49

Hi Kitty.... No.... instructions on boxes are as vague as the doctor was. After various Google searches I think I may have it figured out noe
