Coil v progesterone tablets?

I am already on 100mg patch and testosterone gel. I have a marina coil in which needs to be replaced - I initially had it 5 years ago for heavy periods.

The thought of removal and insertion of one fills me with dread.

is there anything stopping me from just getting progesterone tablets instead?

or is there an advantage to getting progesterone through a coil?

many thanks

You'll need to ask your GP about just having progesterone in tablet, patch or other form. If that would be suitable then you won't have to have a new mirena coil inserted, just the old one removed.

I'm not yet on any HRT and really don't know yet whether I will ever want to be. I'm not a suitable candidate for a mirena coil (or any coil, for that matter) because of the size and position of a fibroid. I already had a huge and year long disaster with one (now thankfully removed) and won't be repeating it

There are pros and cons and it's down to your choice.

Mirena- you don't need think about taking tablets. The downside is it is a synthetic progesterone and if you want to carry on with HRT long term, it's associated with higher risks of breast cancer compared to micronised progesterone.

Micronised progesterone - some women love it, others hate it. It can have side effects like moods, low energy, but then so can the Mirena!

You are likely to get spotting for some weeks at first as it takes a while for it to stop the womb lining building up.
